We are looking for a reliable, fun, loving and lively *female Support Worker / Buddy to help Laura aged 33 in the family’s busy and happy home. Laura was born 6 weeks prematurely and had a difficult start to life. She is a happy girl who has limited mobility but is able to walk albeit awkwardly. Laura is unaware of danger and needs 1:1 supervision.  Although she has limited vocal output she can make her needs and feelings known and understands more than one would first realise.
Laura attends a day centre in Stamford Hill and needs to be driven there and handed over to the staff every morning. She is then collected at just before 4.00 pm and accompanied to further activities four afternoons a week, this could include Yoga, Art, cooking classes and physiotherapy; routines do sometime vary.
During the winter months, the day centre operates a half a day so Laura needs to be collected by 1.00pm taken home and engaged with activities. Sometimes on a Friday evening she will join her Mum at her Aunt’s house just round the corner and will be left with her Mum before being collected sometime later.
Laura needs support in becoming more independent. You will encourage Laura’s progress in her everyday life, helping her achieve her maximum potential. Communication is an important part of this role and Laura needs a support worker who will engage with her in her favourite activities, as well as provide support during meal times and bedtime routines. Previous knowledge and use of PECs would be beneficial but not necessary.
This is a live-in position offering an attractive salary. You will have your own bedroom with shower room en-suite, TV and internet. Hampstead Heath and other lovely parks are close by.
You need to be an experienced driver with a clean Licence and an accident free record, a DBS check and be able to provide references.
You should be trained in First Aid and some experience of either Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy or OT, would be an advantage but is not essential as training will be provided.
*Gender is considered to be a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 for a female worker to work with our client.
