Hackney Picturehouse is an established venue in the heart of Hackney. Thanks to its atmospheric spaces and popular membership scheme, the venue has quickly attracted a loyal following to its cinemas, café-bar and the “Hackney Attic” events space.
Hackney Picturehouse is part of Picturehouse Cinemas (www.picturehouses.co.uk) who operate 23 cinemas across the UK and are a stand-alone division of Cineworld PLC.
We’re now looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Head Chef with a passion for delivering outstanding food service to lead the team in the kitchen for our café-bar.

The successful candidate will have at least 4 years’ experience working in a professional kitchen with at least 1 year working at Head Chef Level. A passion for all things food is required. experience of working to deliver private events and a proven track record of delivering results is desirable.
Please note there is a requirement to work 45 hours per week over any of the seven days with regular work at evenings and weekends.
We offer a salary of up to £28,000 plus bonus opportunities in a trendy, relaxed, yet fast paced working environment.

Job Description: Head Chef Job Purpose
To take overall responsibility for the day to day management of the kitchen and to provide leadership to ensure a memorably excellent menu is consistently delivered.
Main Duties

Devising and introducing menus (including daily specials) suitable for the operation and capable of being cooked and served in a timely manner from the kitchen.
Advising on pricing so that menu items produce agreed margins.
Recruiting, training and managing the kitchen team ensuring that everyone knows fully what is expected of them and is performing their role to the best of their ability.
Sourcing ingredients at an appropriate quality and at the best possible prices; ordering items as required.
Ensuring Food Hygiene, Kitchen Cleanliness and other health and safety responsibilities are understood and followed by the team at all times.
Setting standards for food preparation and service and ensure that they are met at all times; maintaining portion control standards.
Ensuring wastage is minimized in food preparation and that stock is rotated to avoid unnecessary waste.
Setting flexible staff rotas according to forecast levels of business and within given budgets.
Preparing and cooking food to consistently high standards of preparation and presentation; leading the team whilst on shift.
Liaising with bar staff and the duty manager to communicate delivery times, items out of stock and other information necessary to present a professional service to customers.
Undertaking such administration as is necessary for the job’s requirements to be fully met.
Undertaking any other duties which may be reasonably requested of you by the Company for the effective functioning of the kitchen or cinema and to maximize its business.
