How to Impress Your Manager

The work environment in every office in London is extremely competitive. This is applicable if you work in any other city in the UK. Most people think that once they have secured a job position, they do not have to improve and highlight their qualities. This is definitely not true. You need to stand out not only at the interview. You have to make yourself known to your manager and impress them. This is a guarantee for promotion and for successful career development. You do not have to suck it up to your boss to stand out in the crowd. There are a whole lot of other methods that are much more effective.

Be a team player. Every manager wants their subordinates to work together well and to help each other. This would lead to greater work productivity and more and more successfully completed projects. Hence, you have to get along with your co-workers on purely professional basis, of course. Use encouragement and focus on using your organizational skills to improve your team’s productive efficiency. Help your colleagues if they need it. At the same time, you should not hesitate to ask for help when you are confused and stuck with a problem that you cannot solve.

Be creative. You probably think that this is not applicable to the workers in your industry, but this is not the case. Irrespective of the organization in which you work, you can always give a little bit more than you are expected to. You have to do all your tasks and perform well. You should also try to come up with new and original ideas. You should not hesitate to share this with your manager and the rest of your work team at meetings. You can always devote a little bit of extra time to working on more complex tasks or on ones that require you to develop new skills.

Speak up. As said earlier, you have to present your ideas in order to impress your boss. You should not hesitate to take credit for your accomplishments without being assertive. You can always mention some of the more complex tasks you have completed when reporting to your manager. You do not have to explain your achievement directly. You can add it at the end of an email or as a note accompanying a memo.

Be honest and be yourself, but do not cross the limits. In most cases, managers are not happy working with people who pretend to be something they are not for one reason or other. You should not hesitate to share your opinion, in the politest and most professional manner possible. Still, if you do not agree with a suggestion, make sure you have an alternative to propose. Otherwise you will look foolish. In addition, you should definitely ask questions at meetings if you cannot understand what your boss is trying to explain. This will not make you look stupid. Quite the opposite, you will show that you are interested, focused and determined to get everything done.
