JOB TITLE: NURSERY MANAGER
BASED: Hackney, LOWER CLAPTON,
RESPONSIBLE TO: NURSERY DIRECTOR, SUPPORT MANAGER, The Local Authority HLT, Early Years Teacher, Welfare Standards Officer
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Nursery Assistants, Apprentices, Volunteers
JOB PURPOSE: To ensure that the A.B.C Day Nursery provides inclusive play and learning opportunities for the under 8’s and to maintain a safe, stimulating and enjoyable environment. To work partly in the office maintaining all levels of occupancy through following policies and procedures working alongside the Manager and Administrator. You will be responsible for curriculum planning within the nursery. You will lead in the absence of Management as well as on meetings, offering advice/guidance and supporting the staff team.

1. To Manage the A.B.C Day Nursery including the staff, students, and administrator ensuring that standards are maintained complying with the A.B.C Day Nursery policies and procedures
2. To oversee the Base Rooms ensuring staff are undertaking all the necessary duties required including contributing/leading on planning, individual child, ensuring a sound routine is in place and to be a positive role model to staff/students
3. To Manage the provision in the absence of the Manager.
4. To be a key holder and be responsible for the opening/closing of the setting.
5. To adhere to the Nursery’s policies and procedures
6. To oversee the planning, delivery and monitoring of the Nursery’s EYFS curriculum in accordance with the children’s/babies social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs.
7. To conduct spot checks alongside management or independently or alongside the Hackney Learning Trust or a weekly basis or as and when necessary dictated by the needs of the setting.
8. To be flexible in approach and be ready to help as and where needed including working across the ages.
9. To register new parent/carers adding them on the Nursery Management software and ensuring payments are taking securely via the A.B.C Nursery payment system.
10. To oversee the children’s online portfolios with attention too: information on each individual child within the Key worker group through observations, monitoring, assessing and recording.
11. To oversee that contacted external professionals in a timely fashion re: 27 month reviews, health checks, SENCO, Social services etc
12. To establish and build professional rapports with external professionals The learning Trust, Link Children Centres.
13. To Ensure that Staff maintain and attractive hall way representing the changes of topic or themes updating of the parent/carer notice board.
14. Preparing a written plan for driving improvement for the Base rooms to be reviewed by the Manager on a quarterly basis or as and when required to suit the needs of the setting.
15. To work in partnership with parent/carers
16. To work alongside the management to conduct one 2 ones, reviews on all the staff team,
17. A commitment to keep up to date with current legislation and to attend all CPD. To lead or assist on staff meeting every last Friday of the month. Attending all staff meetings in service and out as well as out of Nursery hours.
18. Working co-operatively with the rest of the team ensuring they are always developing and implementing a suitable curriculum for babies/children and ensuring that other staff members adhere to this.
19. Meeting on occasion with the Manager/Early Years Teacher/ external professionals i.e Hackney Learning Trust, to review objectives, plans and evaluations, SEF.
20. Reviewing children's records periodically; update as needed.
Being attentive to health, sanitation, nutrition and safety at all times.
21. Ensure children welfare, inclusion, safety are maintained.
Recording information pertinent to a child's development.
22. Reporting any unusual occurrences or behavioural changes in children, including recording accidents in an accident log.
23. Maintaining confidentiality of information/records, (informing or sharing on a need to know basis) conferences, and family matters at all times. Valuing and supporting each child and staff member without regard to race, religion or national origin.
24. Demonstrating leadership in training children to be respectful, responsible, kind, and well-Mannered.
25. Take part in daily cleansing and presentation of the nursery.
Providing substitute nursery staff with activity plans and instructions.
26. To perform any other duties as deemed necessary by the Nursery Manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria:
1. A minimum Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification (e.g NVQ 3/NNEB, or equivalent) and a commitment to obtaining further qualifications as appropriate.
2. Post-qualification experience 1 year in a managerial/senior/supervisory role or experience with working with baby’s at least a 1 year.
3. A valid Paediatric First Aid Certificate
4. A valid Food Hygiene Certificate
5. A sound understanding of child development and children’s needs with an ability to plan and implement an early years age/stage appropriate curriculum, taking into account the SEN Code of Practice, child protection procedures and equal opportunities’ considerations.
6. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. This includes the ability to establish rapport and credibility with parents and the ability to produce clear, concise and well-written reports, e.g. For children’s reports, one to one/disciplinaries.
7. Ability to use Microsoft Office packages effectively and to produce reports and correspondence in a professional and accurate format.
8. Ability to prioritise own work and plan in advance for meetings etc.
9. Ability to build good partnership working relationships with staff, internal/external professionals
10. Ability to communicate and have a drive for the need for quality and continuous improvement, and influences good practice.
11. Ability to inspire people to deliver results, high standards and set clear objectives for self and the team, taking appropriate and timely action to ensure targets are achieved.
12. Ability to support the development of his/her team through regular discussion and team meetings which encourage two way communication and sharing of ideas and expectations.
