The Kids Cookery School (KCS), is looking for a new kitchen assistant to work part-time on Saturday’s and during school holidays.
KCS is a unique food education charity with the vision of bringing the value and fun of food and nutrition to children from all backgrounds.
Our facilities are designed so that all children from as young as 3, and including those with special needs, have the opportunity to learn this vital life skill.
With the expansion of “KCS on Wheels”, we now also have the facility to get out into the community at large and take the value of our lessons directly to inner city communities.
Job Specification
• As a kitchen assistant you will be assisting the Head Chef in leading our unique and exciting cookery workshops
• We are looking for a flexible and passionate young individual to assist in running workshops from both our colourful purpose-built premises in Acton, and from our new mobile unit “KCS on Wheels”.
• To play a critical part of our team you will be passionate about food and nutrition, and will demonstrate a creative and enthusiastic approach in the role.
• You will enjoy working with children, and offer copious amounts of enthusiasm and commitment to our cause.
• Responsibilities will include assisting the Head Chef in leading our cookery workshops and designing menus and lesson plans for children of a variety of ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Person Specification- experience/knowledge
Essential
• Strong communication skills and fluency in English
• Willing to work some early mornings/late nights
• Available to work Saturday’s and school holidays when children are off school
• Excellent organisational skills and an aptitude to multi-task
• experience working with food or ability to do so.
Desirable
• Basic hygiene certificate, First Aid Certificate.
• Teaching and/or chef/catering experience
• experience of working with children and young people

• Must like working around food
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
• Motivated, efficient and organised
• Personable and approachable
• Willingness to be flexible
• Good interpersonal skills
• A good sense of humour
The successful candidate will need to undergo an enhanced CRB check (police check). References required.
