Our client runs one of London's elite sports and aquatics facilities. They are currently looking for an assistant manager to join their team. This is a 1 year contract post.
Overall purpose
The Assistant Aquatic and Fitness Center Manager is responsible for working directly with the Operations Manager to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the Aquatic and Fitness Center. This will include administrative duties, health and safety checks, and occasional delegation of responsibilities to team members. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of multi-task management, and be able to confidently ensure successful completion of tasks, while at the same time having the ability to carry out projects “hands-on.”
The Assistant Aquatic and Fitness Center Manager will assist the development of a fee-based community fitness program that uses the pool, fitness room, multipurpose studio and gyms. Responsibilities will include membership management, program development, advertising and planning for growth. The facility includes a 25m swimming pool, male and female changing rooms, a fitness center and a studio. Staff includes 1 x Sport Centre Manager, 4 x Recreation Assistants, a bank of casual Recreations Assistants and sports teachers. Hours of work will include working outside normal hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
Selection criteria
Essential qualifications/experience:
- Qualifications to Level 2 or above in a sports/leisure related discipline (or equivalent)
- Leisure degree or equivalent professional qualification
- Substantive experience working in a sports/fitness centre, preferably one with a wet side
- Good working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and other legislation in relations to leisure center operations, with experience administering risk assessments
- Understanding of Normal Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Plan
- Recognized First Aid qualifications (or willingness to train prior to taking up the role)
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with excellent technology skills
- A desire to work in a team-focused, community environment
- The ability to assist customers and their queries and concerns with tact and sensitivity
- National Pool Lifeguarding qualification (or willingness to train prior to taking up the role)
- Pool plant operators certificate (or willingness to train prior to taking up the role)
- experience in managing staff
- Good time management is essential
- A proven commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children
Desirable qualifications/experience:
- NPLQ Trainer/assessor qualification
- ASL level 1 or level 2
- Gym/fitness instructor qualifications
- experience working in an educational institution or similar
- Knowledge and understanding of international and/or independent school communities.
