About us
7dots is an award winning digital agency, founded in 2009 and based in Kingston upon Thames.
We create intelligent, scalable, cutting edge websites, apps and digital assets for a range of clients which includes marketing agencies, individual companies and multi-national blue chip organisations.
We are non-sector specific which means the work remains varied and interested – in any given month we may be launching an e-commerce website for a software provider, a corporate website for an insurance company, a portal for a cultural organisation and an online competition for a multi-national drinks brand. Clients include ITV, Net Names, The British Council, JLT, the School of Life, Kaspersky, British Skeleton, IRIS, Bidwells, Hampstead Theatre, Modalu, Google and Twitter.
We have a small core team of developers, pulling in external design, marketing and other specialist teams from our trusted network as and when required.
About the position
Job title: Web developer
Contract length: Permanent
Location: Kingston upon Thames
We are looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic, self-starter to join our web development team based in Kingston upon Thames. You will become an integral part of the project delivery process, from inception through design, development and deployment.
You will be working predominantly with open source technologies, from back-end through to front-end and will have the opportunity to evolve the role as you develop your skills. All we ask in return is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and get involved!
Projects vary in size considerably and frequently have a relatively fast turnaround. You will need to be able to self-manage your own time effectively and you will need to become proficient at multi-tasking. Like any small company, you get the benefits of flexibility and variety – but don’t be surprised if you find yourself getting involved in all sorts of non-core activities!
Typical day to day activities
- Analysing client requirements, proposing scalable and flexible “future-proofed” solutions and estimating development work accordingly.
- Working closely with project managers to help plan and organise your own work packages to meet deadlines and milestones.
- Setting up databases and code repositories, installing and configuring open source platforms.
- Programming and templating fully responsive, dynamic websites using current best practice.
- Setting up and connecting backend and frontend coding.
- Building HTML emails using current worst practice…in lieu of email clients sorting themselves out!
- Testing code and deploying projects to live server environments.
- Responding to support tickets and client requests.
Skills and experience
We’re looking for the right person and fit within our organisation – it’s more about potential than just ticking the right boxes in terms of proven skills and expertise. However, there are some criteria which are essential.
Must haves
- A genuine enthusiasm for technology, its application in a web environment and a desire to learn.
- Good practical experience and understanding of HTML, CSS, Java Script/Jquery, PHP and MySQL.
- The ability to problem solve and learn new processes and languages quickly.
- Good communication skills and ability to deal with clients directly in a responsive and helpful manner.
- A good eye for detail.
Nice to haves
- experience with open source systems and applications, including systems built on MVC frameworks such as Word Press, Silver Stripe, Drupal and Magento.
- A working knowledge of mobile, tablet and responsive web design.
- Mobile / tablet application experience,
- Project management experience of all facets of a typical web project.
- Industry experience within another agency.
In return for your hard work and achievements, we offer a generous holiday allowance, regular salary reviews, occasional company get-togethers, your birthday off, a positive working environment with excellent coffee, and the directors strongly encourage a reasonable work-life balance for everyone.
