Two week holiday job in Provence August 2022
Every summer we take someone to join us on holiday at our house in Provence with its own pool and tennis court, to help out in the kitchen and to help with the cooking and the shopping (but not have full responsibility for all cooking as I cook too). Our children are in their twenties and we all take friends so there are between 10 and 16 people there at any time. Meals are very relaxed, fun and often quite simple but they are a central part of the holiday. There is about 6 hours of work per day average (often less) which includes doing the shopping daily as well as helping with preparation of meals, table laying etc. This is not a sole chef role but I need someone capable of making some dishes or even cooking the entire meal (usually one course) occasionally. Our children and their friends mainly take care of the washing up! There is no cleaning except helping to keep the kitchen in reasonable order.
The Luberon is a beautiful area and our nearest town Isle sur la Sorgue is famous for its canals and its 150 or so antique shops and Stalls. There is plenty of free time (and a car or bikes at your disposal) if you want to play tennis or relax by the pool or set off to explore from Aix to Avignon and all the stunning Luberon villages. Mount Ventoux is not far either for true cycling enthusiasts! You are very welcome to eat meals with us or to be independent or you can choose on the day. You would have your own room.
We pay flights and £50 per day and of course all meals, drinks and accommodation are included as well as lunch/dinner out with us occasionally.
Applicants need to be over 23 for car insurance purposes and be happy to drive in France. This job would suit anyone aged 23 to 30 or so who really enjoys cooking, enjoys sports and is positive, flexible and fun and looking for a working holiday in France. It would also be an excellent opportunity for an aspiring cook to try out new recipes on an appreciative audience and to practise catering skills. Past ‘employees’ have said that they are very happy to recommend the job and to talk to candidates about how much they enjoyed themselves at Mas Saint Damien.
