Alexander soon to be 9 years old, has Dravet syndrome which presents with multiple seizures and developmental delay causing difficulties with language and motor skills. Please research this syndrome before applying. Alexander also has autism and a button in place mainly for his medication. Alexander requires regular morning and evening medicine and occasionally requires emergency medication to resolve his seizures. During the night, the SEN nanny will be watching on a video monitor for seizures and wakefulness. Waking Night experience is essential for this role. Alexander is awake A LOT so he will require gentle comforting to help him get back to sleep.
During the weekend day shift, (one day per month is required). You will see how much enjoyment Alexander gets from being out and about. He really enjoys high impact activities like climbing or dancing – you won’t be afraid to do Daft/silly things to make him laugh. He will make strong relationships with people once he feels comfortable with them. He likes to spend time on his iPad, (not too much) - this will suit someone who realises the importance of one to one input. Alexander and his family are very well known to SNAP and he has come on leaps and Bounds since we first met him. He is a very special little boy, who has an equally special wee sister, 6 who absolutely adores her big brother.
Days and hours of work: Per week, each person will do two waking nights, 10.00pm to 07.00am. For example: Week one, Wednesday and Thursday. Week two, Friday and Saturday. On this basis, you will not have to work every Friday and Saturday. Occasionally, Friday and Saturday hours will be extended to 12 hours per shift. An additional essential requirement, is one weekend day per month. This will give you the perfect opportunity to get to know Alexander.
The family want someone who is in it for the long haul so if you are planning to set off for your travels anytime soon, please do not apply. For more information on this great family please contact Janet at SNAP.
