Eastside Youth is a new youth work charity, that started in January 2022 and is based in East London aiming to change the lives of young people and has been set up in response to the massive and severe funding cuts and closures of youth services across East London, leaving young people with lack of services and feeling isolated in a time where young people already feel segregated from society with no real voice.
#YouthWorkChangesLives and at Eastside Youth we aim to facilitate that change by giving young people aged 11 to 19 years old based in East London the tools and skills to lead active and independent lives by providing interactive and engaging structured youth activities, training opportunities and support that will help improve their physical, mental, emotional, social and educational well-being.
We are looking for volunteers to join us on our Board of Trustees which currently meet monthly on a Monday evening between 6:30pm and 9pm. This also includes a few additional hours each month for reading board papers and carrying out board tasks and duties.
We need Trustees who are productive, enthusiastic, approachable, friendly and solution focused, who is able to get things done with little supervision and who can work well alone or within the wider board team. You must be able to manage your own time effectively, as well as your own workloads and ensure you fully participate to enable the board to progress in its work to making Eastside Youth an amazing youth work charity for young people.
This role offers an amazing opportunity for someone interested in a youth work charity, board or senior management or a new charity where they will be able to add real value and have an input from the start, seeing how they can help grow a charity.
Duties Include:
1. Working to ensure that Eastside Youth pursues its objects as defined in its governing document, charity law, company law and other relevant legislation / regulations.
2. To work in partnership with the Founder/CEO and the other Board of Trustees, helping Eastside Youth make a positive impact in the local community.
3. Participate fully on the board of trustees in stimulating excellent, well-rounded and carefully considered strategic decision-making and help Eastside Youth to make positive impact across East London as a youth work organisation.
4. To lead on /assist in fundraising and bid writing to ensure that Eastside Youth has all the needed funds and resources to carry out its services for young people.
5. Using contacts and networks to help Eastside Youth grow and develop and to be an active ambassador for Eastside Youth.
6. To create and regularly update Eastside Youth policies and procedures, strategies, risk framework and other governance related duties.
7. Other duties required and expected of a Trustee.
Time Commitment and Work Location:
This role would ideally be approximately. 4-6 hours per month commitment (during evening and weekends), managed flexibly and with some remote/home based working.
