Eastside Youth is a new youth work charity, that started in January 2022 and is based in East London aiming to change the lives of young people and has been set up in response to the massive and severe funding cuts and closures of youth services across East London, leaving young people with lack of services and feeling isolated in a time where young people already feel segregated from society with no real voice.
#YouthWorkChangesLives and at Eastside Youth we aim to facilitate that change by giving young people aged 11 to 19 years old based in East London the tools and skills to lead active and independent lives by providing interactive and engaging structured youth activities, training opportunities and support that will help improve their physical, mental, emotional, social and educational well-being.
We have launched our pilot youth project which is a monthly LGBT + Youth Group in Havering East London in partnership with Havering Council and are preparing to launch our next youth programs later throughout this year in partnership with local authorities and local charities and organisations.
We are recruiting a new Trustee to join our amazing Board of Trustee who currently meet on a monthly basis to formalise our new charity and help build the charities foundations, helping to give us a solid footing in the sector.
We are seeking someone who is committed, hard work, solution focused and has good organisational skills and time management, who can bring added value to our current board and help Broaden our skills, experience and knowledge, providing good governance collectively with other board members.
Responsibilities:
1. Ensure that the charity pursues its objects as defined in its governing document, charity law, company law and other relevant legislation/regulations.
2. To work in partnership with the Founder and Director and the other Board of Trustees, helping Eastside Youth make positive impact in the local community.
3. Participate fully on the board of trustees in stimulating excellent, well-rounded and carefully considered strategic decision-making and help Eastside Youth to make positive impact across East London as a youth work organisation.
4. To lead on /assist in fundraising and bid writing to ensure that Eastside Youth has all the needed funds and resources to carry out its services for young people.
5. Using contacts and networks to help Eastside Youth grow and develop and to be an active ambassador for Eastside Youth.
6. To create and regularly update Eastside Youth policies and procedures, strategies, risk framework.
7. Other duties required and expected of a Trustee.
Time Commitment and Work Location:
This role requires approximately. 6-8 hours per month commitment, managed flexibly and with some remote working, with presence during needed evenings and weekends in line with our core service provision hours and during Trustee Meetings, which are held monthly on a Monday evening 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
experience, Qualities and Skills Required:
1. experience and/or skills in areas that will benefit our new youth work charity, such as fundraising for example.
2. Passion and commitment towards the development of young people, as well as to your Trustee duties and the charity.
3. Ability to manage your time and work load effectively, ensuring you give sufficient time to help the charity.
4. Approachable, friendly and able to build positive working relationships and partnerships both internally and with external organisations, networks and people.
5 Good, independent judgement, political impartiality and the ability to think creatively in the context of the organisation and external environment.
6. Solution focused and able to get things done and bring added value to our new youth work charity starting its journey.
