Peabody has an exciting opportunity for a Tree Officer to join our team in London. The successful applicant will join us on a full time permanent basis and will receive a competitive salary of £30,000 per annum.
Peabody is looking for a person with a formal qualification in Arboriculture to manage the Peabody and Family Mosaic tree stock.
Key responsibilities of the Tree Officer:
- To manage and monitor the performance of contractors responsible for delivering the Peabody tree management programme.
- Arrange and organise the tree budget to ensure all works are completed each year within target and on time and continue to provide value for money.
- Ensure the contractors are working to all relevant legislation and report any non-compliance to the Landscape Services Manager.
- Work with the contractors to ensure all tree related emergencies are responded to and addressed within the agreed timescales.
- To be the first point of contact for tree related enquires from both customers, staff and external agencies.
- To Provide technical expertise and written reports as required both internally and externally.
- Attend and inspect ad hoc tree enquiries to provide guidance for customers and staff within the organisation.
- To promote and educate staff of the benefit of trees within the organisation and work with other departments to ensure the appropriate protection measures are in place during development of sites or when major works are undertaken on estates.
- Pro-actively deal with alleged tree damage to properties regarding subsidence and structural claims, working collaboratively with the Insurance and Risk Team to determine effective remedial works within agreed timeframes.
- To represent Peabody positively both internally and externally in respect of its management of tree stock.
- Support the landscape services manager with input into designs as required for new development sites.
- In conjunction with the landscape services manager develop an annual tree planting schedule that decides tree species and tree location.
Knowledge/experience/skills required by the Tree Officer.
Essential
- Minimum of level 3 Arboriculture qualification (QCF) or equivalent. You should have the appropriate skills in tree identification, and can carry out surveys to BS3998 (Recommendations for Tree Works)
- An understanding of trees and their management in the public realm, including a sound knowledge of related legislation, codes of practise and risk management.
- Have and maintain a sound working knowledge of I.T. Systems including GIS, tree survey software i.e. Confirm Arb, and other relevant technology systems to enable effective delivery of all services.
- experience of managing budgets
- The ability to be a strong advocate for trees and the positive role they play in the environment.
- Have sound knowledge of the Visual Tree Assessment systems and knowledge of tree pests and diseases.
- Can recognise and assess basic structural hazards related to trees and prescribe the most appropriate remedial action.
- Can recognise symptoms of more intricate structural hazards related to trees and record them.
- Have a working knowledge of decay fungi and their decay strategies.
- Have good tree identification skills
- Can recognise symptoms of ill health in trees.
- Can prescribe suitable management techniques.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge of the current science and legislation relating to tree management.
- Ability to work in a mobile site based environment in all Weathers.
Desirable
- experience of working with DLO staff or in a contractor environment.
Qualifications required by the Tree Officer.
- High standard of general education
- A formal qualification in Arboriculture is essential. (A Technicians certificate is the minimum requirement)
