Northwick Park Dental Practice is a well-established practice in Harrow. We are located inside Northwick Park Hospital and the practice provides NHS and private dental services to hospital staff as well as the general public. Our aim is to provide best practice dental care and excellent customer service to all patients.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual for the following post:-
Post Title:- Trainee Dental Nurse Post Type:- Part Time.

Purpose of the Post:-
Provide clinical support to dentists, hygienists and patients, assist with reception or any clerical duties as required and perform such other tasks as reasonably requested by the principal. This post is directly supervised by the Practice Manager, Head Nurse, Principal Dentist, Associate Dentists and other Senior Nurses.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Develop knowledge of a wide range of practical treatment procedures and the relevant support necessary to ensure effective outcomes.
Provide chair side support to the dentist or hygienist/therapist during treatment.
Follow practice policies and procedures
Establish, promote and maintain productive working relationships with all members of the dental team.
Liaise with the practice manager on all matters concerning administration, pay and service conditions.
Assist with reception duties and perform other clerical duties if required.
Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your work.
Follow the practice procedures for infection prevention and control.
Set-up and prepare the treatment room appropriately for each patient.
Prepare the necessary materials and instruments, making sure that equipment and instruments are in good working order and maintained regularly in accordance with practice policy.
Segregate waste in accordance with the practice procedures and ensure its safe disposal.
Assist in taking radiographs according to your level of training.
Maintain and decontaminate equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and your training.
Liaise with reception over appointments for each patient.
Escort patients from the waiting room to the surgery, confirm the patient’s medical history is up-to-date and communicate to the dentist or hygienist/therapist any change in medical history or problems that he/she has noted.
Prepare dental materials as required
Monitor, support and reassure patients
Support the patient and colleagues if there is an emergency.
Monitor and maintain stock within the practice as necessary, informing the practice manager, senior dental nurses and liaising with the dentists or hygienist/therapist over orders or any shortages of materials.
Perform chaperoning duties for dentists or hygienist/therapist when treating patients.
Required Qualifications and experience
• Recently enrolled or due to be enrolled on a nationally recognised qualification in dental nursing course. This qualification is registerable with the General Dental Council.
• Excellent Communication Skills in English (Both Spoken and Written)
• Hepatitis B Immunisation course commenced.
• Excellent organisational skills
• Ability to work with accuracy and with attention to detail.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work in different environments.
• Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and receptive to new ways of working.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
