The Complete Works has an exciting opportunity for 1 to 1 Teachers to join the team based in London. Pay starts from £17 p/h after completing a 4-week induction period.
We are a charity that offers a range of services to our students who are not in mainstream education for a variety of reasons including social, emotional, behavioural and medical needs. In 2013 we registered with Department for Education for Independent School Status. We now work with all ages and abilities across London and pride ourselves on the ability to engage young people in academic activities using innovative as well as interesting ways to learn.
This will be a great opportunity to build your career whether you have QTS or experience working with young people and plenty of enthusiasm. This would be a great stepping-stone for someone to gain experience towards their PGCE. We have two methods of delivering our teaching and that is by Offsite and Onsite tuition. We primarily focus on the core subject by innovative ways.
Offsite - Focus on 1 to 1 education taking place in libraries/homes/centres (half day or full days).
Onsite- 1 to 1 teaching and support students to access group session (full day).

As a 1 to 1 Teacher you will follow an individual education plan as agreed in partnership with the Education Support Officers. To engage students and build their confidence in learning through academic and creative study.
The 1 to 1 Teacher duties and key responsibilities:
- Educate students in accordance with the schools ethos of learning through creativity.
- Improve students skills in literacy and/or numeracy and build their confidence through creative and academic learning.
- Develop and create resources for delivering lessons.
- Create detailed, interesting and relevant lesson plans and schemes of work for each student or class.
- Keep in daily contact with the Education Support Officers or Head of Centre
- Arrive on time to offsite session at the agreed location or to a centre for the expected time
- Meet with professionals connected to your student(s) and attend educational reviews to discuss the progress of students if the need arises.
- Communicate any concerns regarding students to the education team through e-mails, phone calls or in person.
- Conduct risk assessments, to evaluate the environment for learning.
- Conduct baseline assessments and ongoing literacy and/or numeracy tests, in line with the national curriculum, to help assess the students development.
- Attend ALL of the required TCW training sessions a year.
- Write detailed half-termly reports and end of programme reports.
- Comply fully with The Complete Works’ Policies and Procedures our staff Handbook (and subsequent updates) and our Equal Opportunities Policy.
Our ideal 1 to 1 Teacher will have the below skills and experience:
- Able to teach specific programs of study and where appropriate deliver qualifications (E.g. AQA entry level, GSCE, Functional Skills and Unit awards.)
- Able to work well with young people
- Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team
- Able to think of new and interesting ways to engage young people in academic and creative activities
- Able to represent the school effectively
- Have an interest in education and the arts in general
- Have excellent communication skills.
- Able to write reports to a high standard
- Good knowledge of the various qualification syllabus
- Ability to safeguard young people effectively by complying with safeguarding policies
- Have a recent enhanced DBS check for immediate employment. An enhanced DBS check must be in place before a contract can be issued.
