Support Friendly Autistic Adult Vacancy

Posted: 12 days ago
Place: Finsbury Park

Friendly, geeky LGBT + activist with epilepsy, narcolepsy and Asperger's syndrome seeks highly organized person to help her get through the days to-do list.
About the role
We are looking for someone who can provide support to an adult in her mid-20s who has multiple invisible disabilities. She is chatty, highly academic and creative but has lost confidence due to health issues. We are seeking a responsible, patient person who can visit during the day to help her complete some basic living tasks.
You will NOT be doing the tasks yourself, but will be there to offer friendly support, company and a bit of guidance while she does them. Basically it's just about making sure that she is up and about and keeping on top of things.
This includes tasks such as:
- Responding to emails
- Cleaning and tidying
- Making phone calls
- Cooking
Some days may involve accompanying her to nearby locations (within a 5-minute walk), for instance:
- Doing a basic shop
- Collecting prescriptions
- Going to the bus stop to make sure she gets to medical appointments.
She is capable of doing these things on her own provided that there is someone to prompt her and reassure her. It is very important that you are able to respect her skills, abilities and intelligence.
Applicants - essential and desirable criteria.
Essential criteria:
- Being patient, understanding and open-minded.
- Being responsible and organised
- The role does not require medical knowledge, but you must be physically able to put someone into recovery position and phone for medical help.
Desirable criteria:
- Direct experience of living, volunteering or working with people who have disabilities, anxiety, are on the autistic spectrum and/or who have neurological conditions.
- Any type of higher qualifications, creative hobbies, interesting skills - more as a conversation starter than anything else!
- Extra points for encyclopaedic knowledge of Harry Potter, the musical Hamilton, and general geeky gayness.
Further details
Hours: After an initial session to see how you get along, ideally 1 hour a day, 5 days a week. We are flexible regarding days and times. Depending on how things go, we would be open to discussing additional sessions, different lengths of session, etc.
Salary: £10/hr. We will be happy to cover travel expenses for the right person though would prefer someone reasonably nearby.
Please send us a short note (1-2 paragraphs) explaining why you'd be right for the job along with your CV. The successful candidate must be able to provide references and ID.
