We are currently looking for a special needs nanny / support worker for our lovely 10-year-old autistic and epileptic son.
This is a full time position, offering a minimum of 35 hours with the possibility to do more.
About our son:
Our son loves being physically active, especially riding his adapted bike and going in the swimming pool. He loves to walk, especially in the woods, and can be very energetic, but for longer stretches he does require help from a wheelchair.
He is very communicative in his own way, whether through pointing or some PECs but we also often have to guess what his needs are as he does not speak.
He is home educated by a team of ABA tutors and support workers and there are team meetings with the ABA consultant to update his education regularly. It is a very nice team that gets on well.
He also has a lovely dog that is currently being trained to be a special companion dog.
About the role:
The role consists of doing all the fun activities such as trips to the playground, bike ride, horse riding, swimming and walks in the woods but most importantly are his health needs.
This means that you will be assisting him with everyday skills such as dressing, toileting, bathing and feeding. As he is epileptic, often after a seizure he feels unwell and limited in his abilities so lots of patience is needed as well as care and nurturing.
The role can also extend to our four year old daughter who although very cheeky is great fun too. With her it will be mainly drop off or pick up from school (5 minutes from the house) and taking her to join her brother in an afternoon activity and occasional babysitting as well as going away with us on the occasional trip within the UK and abroad.
For the role there is a mixture of morning and afternoon shifts and one (or two - depending on applicant) waking night per week. When working overnight you will need to ensure that he is safe by monitoring his heart rate and breathing and alert the parents in case of a seizure.
Salary: £10 per hour
Weekly hours: Minimum of 35, potential for more
Starting date: as soon as possible
Training provided by existing team of ABA tutors and support workers.
About you:
This position would suit someone who is still studying or has studied for a child related qualification.
You should be responsible, cheerful, honest and very reliable and physically fit and strong as our soon does require lots of support.
You must speak fluent English and be able to provide us with good references.
Ideally in your 20’s or early 30’s.
A strong and clear interest in special needs is essential as we are looking for someone who can commit to a minimum of one year.
This is a self employed position.
If all of the above interests you then we would love to hear from you.
Please reply with a brief explanation of why you are interested, your CV, references and recent DBS and we can arrange to meet for an interview.
Thank you!
