Google London is offering apprenticeships for 20 people interested in broadening their skills and pursuing a career in software development. While onsite, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of engineers to solve real life problems.
Start Date is 1st October 2022.
Interview and screening will begin in January 2022.
Minimum qualifications:
1. You’ve completed (or are in the process of completing) A Levels at grade B or above (or equivalent of this degree and grades) in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths) related subjects.
2. You’re able to speak and write in English fluently and idiomatically.
3. You’ve got some prior coding experience in any programming language.
Preferred qualifications:
You have an enthusiasm for Computer Science and new technologies; strong problem solving capabilities; good communication skills, pro-active, self-motivated and positive attitude; commitment to learning new skills.

The role:
As a technology apprentice, you will be part of the Higher Level Apprenticeship in Digital Innovation Program launched this year.
As the entry point for your career in technology at Google, the Higher Level Apprenticeship in Digital Innovation Program provides the skills you will need to become a Software Engineer.
1. Develop software on agreed projects and platforms
2. Build software according to technical specifications and established patterns
3. Follow application and component level design working to standards and patterns agreed by the technical team leads
4. Ensure all proposed solutions are pre-agreed with a lead developer
5. Follow coding standards and ensure compliance with quality measures
6. Ensure code is tested in accordance with the guidelines provided by the team or your host.
7. Undertake training and follow mentoring as specified
8. Attend team meetings to keep colleagues informed and to create a forum for knowledge sharing
Hours are 9am to 6pm, Mon-Fri
Future prospects:
After completing your initial training, you will rotate between being onsite at Google for 6-8 weeks and training at Ada for 1 week for the remainder of your 2-year apprenticeship.
Skills:
Additionally, you will learn how to apply problem solving skills to real world situations, pick up new technical skills such as programming in multiple languages, learn about software testing and other industry practices and see how software is designed and developed.
