Senior Project Manager Needed

Posted: 52 days ago
Place: Central London, London

We’re looking for a senior project manager who can help us continue to deliver good work and challenge us and our clients, when needed.
Our projects range in size from mini-sites about local regeneration or iPad-based kiosks in galleries, through to grant application systems and large corporate sites for the British Antarctic Survey or the LSE Grantham Research Institute. We pride ourselves on building and supporting our clients’ sites well, being helpful but not afraid to challenge when needed and we’ll always stand up for users.
About the role
We’re looking for a new Senior Project Manager to join the friendly hard-working team at Helpful Technology.
Since 2010 Helpful Technology has been building Word Press websites for government, think tank, university, scientific and charity clients.
Role requirements:
First off, we’re looking for someone who is a brilliant manager of projects and people. This isn’t a role that demands deep technical knowledge: you don’t have to be developer, or an expert in web content or design – but you’ll be interested by all those disciplines and how they combine to produce websites that are easy and enjoyable to use. You’ll be used to working with developers, designers and non-technical client stakeholders, face to face and online, helping them understand each other and deliver good work.
Secondly, we need someone who is great at keeping clients and the rest of the team up-to-date. You’ll probably be more into Kanban/Trello than Gantt charts, but we’re looking for someone with common sense, clear and friendly communication skills above all. Clients want to know when things will be delivered, the team’s workload needs to be planned and managed appropriately, and you’ll need to communicate requirements and ideas within the team through sketches and words. Beyond this we will be looking to you to build processes that help clients. These need to be proportionate to the size and complexity of the fixed price, fixed scope projects we generally work on: sometimes that’s Agile, but often it’s something less formal.
We want a project manager who knows the status of the 8-10 projects we have in progress at any one point and, crucially, can maintain momentum. A key part of the role is running our weekly work-in-progress meetings, so we keep an eye on where things are against schedule and what’s coming up next.
Finally, we want to continue to grow a sustainable web site build business, so we’ll be asking you to maintain a steady pipeline of opportunities. This will involve preparing tenders, writing proposals and nurturing repeat business and recommendations from clients.
You are:
- A confident project manager with experience of running web projects, probably agency-side.
- This might be your second or third role and you’ll be able to share clear examples of:
Managing clients: keeping them focused on their users when necessary and managing expectations within the scope of the project
Managing staff: ensuring time is carefully allocated to projects, that workloads are balanced and feedback is constructive and regular
Delivering websites to challenging briefs and timescales, on time and within budget
You will be happy working on small, fast-turnaround projects with limited scope, as well as larger and more creative builds.
We’re a small and flexible team so you will need to be happy working with colleagues through Slack or Hangouts, as well as face-to-face.
Contract term: 12 month contract, following successful completion of 3 month probationary period
Location: Clerkenwell, London with occasional travel in UK. Option to work flexibly from home by agreement (but role is primarily office-based).
Benefits: around £40,000 depending on experience, plus 5% employer's pension contribution. Decent laptop and mobile broadband connection provided. Holiday entitlement of 25 days a year plus bank holidays
40 hours/week including lunch breaks, flexibility and some remote working by agreement
**No agencies, please**
When applying for this role please include a covering message with your CV explaining why you are interested and your relevant experience.
