Title: Part Time SEN PA / Buddy
Location: Kings Cross, N1
Nearest Train / Tube Station: Kings Cross.
Wage / Salary: £14.00 gross per hour
Driver required? Essential (When Family travel to East Sussex)
Use of a car? On duty
Essential: A minimum of one year’s autism experience with teenagers.
Start Date:  as soon as possible
Days and Hours: Monday 4.00pm to 7.00pm and Tuesday to Friday 1.00pm to 7.00pm (There can be some flexibility with hours)
Thomas aged 19 is a loving and affectionate young man with a brilliant sense of humour. He enjoys all foods and particularly likes cooking, looking up recipes online and then shopping for the ingredients and creating something Yummy! He has an older brother called Edward who is currently at University. Thomas is autistic and has been part of a successfully run home education (ABA) programme for the last 13 years. Thomas currently attends a mainstream school for one session a week to cook. Thomas can get anxious and frustrated, but the family have developed excellent strategies to help him with this.
The PA / Buddy will be actively taught how to apply ABA and be involved in ABA sessions as well as shadow existing members of Thomas’s team to help them gain a further understanding of the strategies used in order to remain consistent. Friday afternoon there is a meeting for all the therapists plus supervisor.
Thomas enjoys different activities in the late afternoon and early evening including, swimming, cycling, boat club, shopping, cookery club, trampolining and going to the gym. Thomas has a bath in the evening and is capable of doing this independently with the help of visual reminders in and around his bathroom/bedroom.
The family also have a house in East Sussex where they usually spend a week at Easter and up to 6 weeks in the summer. The PA / Buddy will accompany the family 1 week at Easster and for 3 weeks in the summer holidays; your own separate accommodation will be provided.
This job will suit someone who is confident, kind, active, a good team player and happy to Muck in with the wider family needs at times. The family are preferably looking for long-term commitment, minimum of one year.
