SEN Learning Support Assistant Job

Posted: Today
Place: Clapham, London

Starting 30th October 2021 until 13th July 2022 - fixed term contract.
At the London Steiner School in Balham, we are looking for an experienced replacement SEN learning support class assistant/one to one tutor to work with one pupil, a thirteen year old boy. He is in the final year of school in a class of 8 pupils. He is a friendly boy who needs basic support in English, maths and thinking skills. He generally works hard and responds well to encouragement. He is very good at sport and enjoys working with his hands, doing woodwork, sewing, knitting, cooking and gardening. He has good social skills and gets on with children of all ages.
Duties involve supporting the pupil in class with different subjects in the curriculum to a level he can manage and providing one to one tuition in literacy and maths using a combination of published materials and your own. Supporting in class may involve simplifying written texts, making word searches or other relevant content/vocabulary based materials.
You will need to liaise with the class teacher on a regular basis and have a weekly half hour morning meeting with his parent. You will need to keep a daily record of work done and progress made; and complete termly individual educational plans. You will need to coordinate and be present at 5-6 SLT sessions a term and implement any activities recommended by the therapist. All the above paperwork for the past three years has been completed and is available for the new assistant.
The post is for 4 teaching days:
Monday and Tuesday: 9.15 - 3.40
Wednesday and Thursday: 9.15 - 12.30 am
These times include some of the paid preparation.
Morning break is between 10.30 - 11 am
Lunch break is between 12.30 - 1.15 pm
The Local Authority SEN provides for 20 hours per week per term at £15 per hour. This will be calculated as a whole for the contract period and then paid monthly.
This is an opportunity for someone who wishes to use and build on their experience and training in SEN learning support to work with one child closely in a small and welcoming school community. The school follows the ideas and curriculum devised by Rudolph Steiner and would be of interest to someone wishing to learn more about non-mainstream education. Please have a look at our website to find out more about our school.
Interviews will be held in the week beginning 16th October 2021. It is hoped that the successful candidate will be able to come into school later that week to shadow the existing Learning Support Assistant, spend time with the pupil and get a feel for the school.
The post will be on a trial basis for 4 weeks and full DAB checks will be carried out.
Please apply by emailing your c.v. And covering letter.
