Other possible advantages would be if you had a background in the maritime industry, have worked on a helpline, have been involved in counselling or providing emotional support or if you have worked for the emergency services or the health services.

We are an international charity based in Croydon helping seafarers and their families around the world via a 24-hour, 365 days a year helpline called SEAFARERHELP.  Our busy helpline team currently has a vacancy for a part-time member of staff to work a minimum of 16 hours a week, although it is usually more, on various shifts which include weekdays and weekends. This vacancy is to provide maternity cover for a period of one year.
The job is to take calls/contacts from seafarers who find themselves in some form of problem anywhere in the world. We find out what the problem is and either resolve it ourselves or refer them to other organisations that are better placed to assist them. The calls/contacts come to us by telephone, email, live chat, Facebook, Whatsapp, Viber, SMS text and Skype so you need to be happy using social media and different IT systems.
Starting salary is £8.67/hr. Rising to £9.96 following a successful 4 month probationary period and then to £10.90. experience is not necessary as full training will be provided but knowledge or previous employment in any of the areas mentioned above would be an advantage.
