This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get experience at the ground level of an exciting digital start-up. It’s an opportunity to learn from an ambitious brand marketing team of what we hope will become one of the world’s most iconic brands (humble ambitions, we know). If that sounds exciting, read on…
ABOUT US
The Plum Guide is building an online marketplace of the world’s best holiday homes. You can think of us as the Michelin Guide to the sharing economy.
We handpick the top 1% of holiday homes, using a mix of algorithms and physical visits by hospitality experts.
Customers love it because we remove the hit and miss nature of Airbnb, Home Away, and the like. In effect, we provide them with a one stop shop for the world’s most beautiful homes. Hosts love it because we recognize their craftsmanship with a badge that drives incremental bookings. Our ambition is to revolutionise the travel market and sharing economy at large.
In 12 months since we launched, we have:
• Reviewed 40,000 homes and accepted the 400 most exceptional ones into the collection.
• Taken £1,000,000 worth of bookings, averaging 30% month-on-month growth.
o We closed our seed funding round 3 months ago from an all-star cast including Local Globe (Transfer Wise, Songkick, and Cityma and Troy Collins (Founders of Secret Escapes), Jason Goodman (Founder of Albion) and many more (a.k.a, we’re ready to grow).
THE ROLE
This is an exciting opportunity for a bright individual to learn the ropes of marketing in a start-up. The marketing team’s objective is to launch and run a disruptive and cut-through marketing campaign. Our marketing activity is absolutely key to solving the biggest challenge our business faces today: cracking organic customer growth and ‘virality’.
WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO
Being a start-up means that this volunteer role could not be more varied, and there’s plenty of scope to learn about the different pillars of marketing activity across the business. You will be getting experience in:
• Video: acting as producer, co-coordinator and assistant to our videographer, who will be shooting and editing neighbourhood guides in October
• PR: executing our PR strategy alongside our agency, putting together press packs, reaching out to influencers and bloggers, co-ordinating PR events and preparing venues
• Content creation: coordinating our freelancer pool, commissioning SEO-friendly written, visual and video content on a weekly basis, and releasing the content across our owned channels
• Social media: creating and leveraging content on our channels and growing our brand following
• CRM/email marketing: researching topics, writing copy, pulling together visual content and populating our email templates
• Marketing collateral creation: creating our ‘offline’ assets with our in-house designers: The Plum Guide Book (a coffee table Tome showcasing our best homes), Plum Postcards (encouraging guests to spread the word about Plum), Plum Welcome Packs (for our guests on arrival), and more
• Advocacy programs: working closely with our New Host Manager, Head of Marketplace and Head of Brand on our customer and host advocacy programs
• Brand merchandising: bringing to life the Plum brand positioning internally by creating and updating consumer moodboards and sharing customer stories with the team
• Helping the Head of Brand out with any other projects and proactively bringing ideas to the table which will help crack customer acquisition and build a truly iconic brand
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
If we could wave a magic wand and hire our dream person for this role, you would:
• Have (or predicted) a 1st class honours degree from a top Tier university (exceptions will be
made for mavericks and renegades).
• Be super hard working, with high standards and a sharp attention-to-detail.
• Have an aesthetic eye and an appreciation of the importance of brand.
• Entrepreneurial by nature, with a real bias for action.
• Unafraid to speak your mind, taking and giving feedback.
• Just generally be really great fun to be around.
BENEFITS:
• Learn how a funded business is built from scratch: building technology, raising money, hiring people, marketing and global expansion. If you want to set-up your own business one day or work in a start-up, it doesn’t get much better than this.
• Gain experience for your CV at what we hope will be one of the most famous start-ups of the next 10 years.
• Work daily alongside an incredibly talented and dynamic team, who have already built and sold a digital collaboration business.
• Have a real impact on the company’s growth and evolution.
OFFICE HOURS and EXPENSES:
• We will cover all travel and lunch expenses for days spent at our office.
• For the right candidate we are highly flexible on the length of the volunteer placement and hours spent in our office per week. However, we have a strong preference for people who can commit to a minimum of 20 hours a week, for 4 weeks plus.
If this fills you with excitement, get in touch. We’d be delighted to properly immerse you in our vision.
