A British couple with a 3-year-old daughter are looking for a nanny/housekeeper to live with them in Tokyo from September, and to work ideally 6 days a week, starting at £650 net. They live in a very large apartment in Roppongi, in the heart of the city, with views over the Imperial Palace.

Their previous nanny/housekeeper (placed by Quintessentially People) has been with them very happily for the past 3 years but is now leaving to start a family of his own. They would like an applicant to live with them for an absolute minimum of 2 years and would like you to become one of the family. As an illustration of this, their housekeeper in their London home has been with them for over 10 years.

The nannying role is to support the mother in her full-time care of her daughter, to provide companionship, and to be an energetic and enthusiastic participant in learning through play. Music, art, inventing stories, going on trips to the zoo, galleries, play centres etc: all of these are a constant part of the job. There will of course be times when you will be looking after the little girl on your own, and your experience in early education and providing an extremely affectionate, joyful, stimulating and imaginative environment is key.

Imagination, a calm approach, constant engagement (she has never watched TV): all of this is at the heart of how this couple are raising their daughter, which they take very seriously, while at the same time making life as fun as possible.

The housekeeper role will primarily revolve around cooking dinner for the family, and cooking all of their daughter’s meals; and household laundry, ironing and cleaning. There will be periods when their London housekeeper will be in Tokyo to provide back-up, and this part of the job will ebb and flow depending on the amount of time needed with their daughter. She will be attending nursery school three mornings a week from September, and of course this will become more full time as she gets older.

Tokyo is an exciting, beautiful and　extremely　safe city to live in, and one way to really enjoy it is to cycle around it. Mother and daughter generally travel about by electric bicycle, and this is something you would need to be able to do too. It would also be helpful if an applicant can drive the family car for longer trips.

Mother and daughter tend to spend much of the summer in London, in order to see family and friends. You would have much more down-time during this period (with a somewhat reduced salary, subject to negotiation), as you would have only the father to cook and clean for when he is not visiting the UK. There may also be an opportunity to come to London with the family during that period and over Christmas, when they also go back to the UK, if that is of interest to you.

Basically, you need to be adventurous, flexible, enthusiastic, and genuinely committed to building a life within this family. And you need to love working with children.
