At the Met, our police training is world class. And from the moment you join, this is exactly what you’ll receive - developing your skills and experience to become a substantive police constable. This includes a 12-week foundation training course, and patrols alongside experienced officers. In your career here, you’ll get plenty of opportunities to continue your professional development. To make London the safest city in the world, we also have to understand it. So it’s important you’ve lived within the geographical area covered by the Met for at least three of the last six years. And, ideally, you’ll speak a second language. If you've been serving in the armed forces or working for the UK government, you may still apply if you've lived in a London borough for three of the last six years you've lived in the UK, discounting any periods of time where you have been deployed overseas or across the UK.
New constables will commence service at the start of the pay scale and will progress according to relevant Home Office guidelines and police regulations.
