Job title: Assistant Playgroup Manager
Responsible to: Playgroup Manager
Responsible for: Playgroup Staff
Job Type: Full-time

Purpose of the job: To provide safe, high quality education for pre-school children; to supervise staff as required; to contribute to and implement pre-school policies.
Main Duties:

To assist with the planning of the curriculum.

To help set up the playroom for the daily programme and maintain the resources and cleanliness/tidiness throughout the day. To help tidy away at the end of the session.

To act as keyworker to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met.

To advise the pre-school leader of any concerns eg over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.

To teach children. Offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation.

To attend staff meetings

To attend in-service training courses and meetings as required.

To keep complete confidentiality any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learnt as part of the job.

To act as first-aider for the playgroup

To contribute to and implement all Playgroup policies and procedures, especially those on equal opportunities, under the direction of the Playgroup Manager.

To supervise the children playing safely in the outdoor area and on outdoor equipment.

To become involved in the Playgroup’s fundraising activities.

To organise and implement the parent Rota.

To assist the Manager in the everyday running of the playgroup and adopting leadership whenever the manager is absent or otherwise engaged in management duties. This may include opening and closing the Playgroup or attending out-of-hours events or meetings.

As Special Educational Needs Co-coordinator to be responsible for the following:

The day to day operation of the Playgroup’s Special Educational Needs Policy.

Offering advise and liaising with other staff.

Co-ordinating provision for children with special needs.

Maintaining the Playgroup’s SEN register and overseeing the records on all children with special needs.

Liaising with parents of children with special educational needs.

Contributing to the continuing professional development of other staff.

Liaising with external agencies including the education psychology service and other support agencies, medical and social services and voluntary bodies as appropriate.

Person specification
Essential Criteria
experience working in a pre-school setting.
NVQ level 3 or equivalent
Sound understanding of child development, and of children’s needs.
Ability to work with parents and to encourage their involvement.
Ability to lead a team of adults
Commitment to equal opportunities and understanding of religious and cultural diversity.
Ability to write clear reports
Good mental and physical health
Desirable Criteria
Management experience in childcare
experience of a parent-managed/parent-involving pre-school.
experience of planning and implementing a pre-school curriculum.
SEN training or experience
