Personal Assistants for Independent Living

PERSONAL ASSISTANT required to work one to one with a disabled woman to enable her to live independently in the community. The Personal Assistant is a vital person in the employer’s life with the role of facilitating various daily living tasks. Personal Assistants must be able and willing to follow the employer’s instructions to assist the employer in all areas of personal, health and domestic need, and to accompany her in her social and day-to-day activities.  This makes it possible for the PA User, who is a powered wheelchair user to fully participate in the community and be in control of her own life.
The PA User requires assistance 24/7 and therefore you would be working as part of a small committed team of workers. The work is currently organised on a shift/hourly basis. The shift can include a sleep-in night shift. A spare bedroom is available for PAs sleep-ins and down-time periods.
The current vacancy is for a full-time worker or 2 part-time workers.
You will be required to be flexible in the days you work.
If successful, this permanent position will start from 2nd August 2022. (Training will commence immediately).
PAY RATES: The current rate of pay is £10.20 per hour.
TRAINING: experience in this particular job is not essential as training is provided You may also be required to attend additional training.
WORKING: Your role will include:
Assisting the PA User with:

Getting in/out of bed
Washing
Dressing/undressing
Bathing/showering
Personal grooming (care of hair, nails, skin care etc)
Using the toilet
Preparing meals and assist with eating and drinking.
Medication/ Health Equipment
Getting in/out of wheelchair
Pushing wheelchair (in manual wheelchair or if powered chair brakes down)
Comfortable positioning
Physiotherapy exercises
Transfers (both using hoist and manual transfers)
Assisting whilst at medical appointments/ admissions to hospital.
Assist employer in the training of new PAs.

Domestic duties:

Washing up dishes, drying and putting away.
Laundry [washing, ironing, folding, putting away]
Making and changing bed
Vacuuming and mopping floors

General cleaning and dusting
Tidying
Preparing, cooking and serving meals/drinks.
Assist with shopping
Pet care (feed, groom cats, change cat litter, clean up after, administer  medication, assist to take to vet appointments if required)
Empty rubbish bins
Maintain wheelchair, vehicle and other equipment.
Gardening indoor/outdoor
Charge batteries; wheelchair, mobile phone, health equipment, environmental control, voice amplifier etc.
DlY e.g decorating, changing light bulbs, etc.

Administrative:

Assist with telephone and messages
Assist with typing, fax and computer
Assist with filing, photocopying
Assist with managing correspondence and paperwork.
Scribe/take notes at training events/meetings.

Social duties:

Driving employer’s manual gear-shift vehicle.
Accompanying employer and assisting at (social events, study, voluntary work, meetings, campaigns, training, conferences)
Assisting employer on holidays
Be supportive of maintaining relationships (family, partner, friends, colleagues)
Swimming
Assisting employer with hobbies/interests e.g. The arts.
