This list is not exhaustive but to give an overview of the work that may be required from a PA:
Supporting the PA User with booking and unpacking online deliveries; accompanying the PA User to the shops; and shopping locally when she is too unwell to leave home.
Supporting the PA User with meal preparation, (peeling/scrubbing veg etc) and either working alongside her or preparing meals for her as required.
Lifting heavier or awkward objects such as larger saucepans; heavy bowls.
Supporting the PA User with personal care as and when required.
Ensuring that laundry is done on a regular basis and the PA User has access to clean laundry.
Support with grass cutting and plant care; watering pot plants.
Assisting with admin and paper work that is required as part of Adult Social Care: this involves sorting paperwork to submit for review with the council/
Assisting to fill in grant forms and applications both for art funding and also for maintenance grants for example to replace the washing machine.
Supporting the PA User with the tasks required to maintain independent living, including liaising with the housing association and contractors.
Assistance to and from medical appointments and also in chasing up any concerns.
Supporting the PA User with their voluntary work and hobbies including wheelchair dance.
Assisting with computers and other technical equipment and support to create art installations and develop the projects as they unfold.
Supporting the PA User to maintain social and personal relationships.
The PA needs to be:
An experienced, efficient multi-Tasker with an eye for detail.
Reliable, respectful, patient, flexible and honest.
Good with animals –an assistance dog and two cats. You will on occasion need to look after the dog when the PA User is in an appointment and will need to assist with walking/exercising and be aware of their allergies and social skills – for example the dog Sensing stress or tensions.
In good mental and physical health – being a PA is a stressful and demanding job.
Fit and able to lift – the employer has an adapted vehicle with a manual wheelchair Ramp; they also have a power chair that needs dismantling if a taxi is being used. The employer may also need pushing in a manual wheelchair depending on their health and the environment being visited.
Comfortable working in inclusive environments.
The employer is currently seeking 9 hours a week, (ideally Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from 10.30am-1.30pm plus the opportunity for extra hours with some evening and weekend support as and when required).
