The Free From Bakehouse is an award winning specialist baked goods business supplying “free from” (gluten/wheat/dairy/egg/sugar free) products to shops/cafes throughout London and our market stall.
We have a full time vacancy for a hard-working individual to join our small bakery team as an EXPERIENCED packaging co-coordinator who is willing to take on a wide number of different duties across the business. Although the role is available from early June, our focus is to have a team member who is a quick learner, with a keen eye for detail, possesses the right work attitude and can adapt to changing situations.
This is a hands on role and requires someone who has experience of multi-tasking, who possesses great attention to detail, and can prioritise workload. You will be working as part of a team but the duties listed below will be your main duties. Our business has grown rapidly over the past few years and like to take on staff who enjoy responsibility, have passion for the job and show commitment.
Your main duties are:
Liaise closely with the Head Pastry Chef and team regarding all cake orders and cake quantities for markets.
Being responsible for ensuring all private and wholesale customer orders are fulfilled correctly and timely. You will (within the team) prepare and pack products in accordance with the company’s established methods to ensure private and wholesale customers receive these in the correct and timely manner.
You will be responsible for checking that all packaged goods are despatched accurately, on time, and according to the business established processes.
This will involve cutting up brownies/flapjacks etc, preparing loaf and whole cakes for packaging and ensuring correct labels (batch codes, best before dates) are on each product before despatch.
Cross-checking outgoing orders and correctly matching invoice/delivery notes to orders. Attention to detail is essential. If necessary, liaising with delivery companies to ensure timely product collections.
Preparing the correct quantity of products to be sent daily to our main market stall, liaising with market staff re stock count and extra items required on market days.
Making simple products e.g frosting, caramel sauce, syrups, icing (experience in this area not required as you will be given training).
Simple decorating of some cakes using the above products is a part of the role (experience in this area is not required as you will be given training). PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT WHOLLY A CAKE DECORATING ROLE.
Weekly stock count of packaging and related items, as well as monitoring levels of cakes and labels.·
Planning ahead to ensure enough packaging is available each week to fulfil orders.
You should demonstrate the following:
• experience in a commercial and fast paced food environment is essential.
• Ability to multi-task is essential in order to be successful in this role.
• Attention to detail imperative
• To use initiative when planning, prioritising and co-ordinating workload.
• To be self-motivated and be able to work under tight timelines.
• To be extremely organised and tidy
• Can adapt to new situations/processes as they arise.
• To have a knowledge of food hygiene practices (or be prepared to do training)
• Enthusiastic with a happy, friendly nature.
• A team player who is always hands on
• Stamina is required (standing and lifting)
• Non-smoker and punctuality important
• A very good level of written and spoken English is required.
The successful candidate should also possess a valid work permit and National Insurance number and should have experience in this role, working in the UK.
Hours: Monday to Friday - approximately 35-45 per week. Flexibility of hours is required as some days / weeks will be a little shorter and some longer.
Weekend work may be required during seasonal months (Nov/Dec) and to support extra production for festivals and exhibitions (about 1-2 a year).
Remuneration: Starting wage is £9.20 per hour plus benefits (pension, 28 days holidays, fruit and … cake!). You will be put on a monthly payroll. Your salary will be reviewed after a successful probation period. Ideally, you will come from a solid background in the food industry, either in operations, packaging, events or retail.
There may be the opportunity to develop the role, take on new responsibility (though it won’t become a cake decorating role) should the right qualities be demonstrated in time. Our business has grown rapidly over the past few years and we like to take on staff who enjoy responsibility, have passion for the business and show commitment.
