Job Title: Part-time Personal Assistant / Carer
Location: Pinner, HA5
Nearest Tube Station: Pinner, Metropolitan Line
Wage / Salary: £15.00 gross per hour
Driver required? Not necessary
Use of a car? Yes, on duty only
Preferred experience: Ideally a background of supporting a young person with physical disabilities.
Start Date: as soon as possible
Days and Hours: Up to 3 weekends a month (flexibility hours, days, number of weekends worked), up to 12 hours per day (with a break). School / College Holidays, 55 hours a week (all generally needed except 2 weeks in summer)
Joshua 18 is a fantastic, communicative, loving and adventurous young man who is seeking a weekend and school holiday PA / Carer to assist with his daily routine on his return from his residential school. Joshua has complex physical needs; cerebral palsy, epilepsy, is registered blind and is fed and medicated via a J peg. Joshua is non-verbal but communicates using a communication book and a VOCA and can make his needs known. Joshua has two teenage sisters so as you can imagine this is a busy household!
We are looking for a proactive and experienced PA / Carer with a ‘can do’ attitude. You will need to be strong and fit; Joshua is lifted with hoists (or occasionally a 2-person lift), but this is a physically demanding job (pushing a manual wheelchair, rolling/turning to get dressed etc.). The family provide excellent training and initial supervision, but you will need to be confident, ideally with a background of supporting young people / adults with a physical disability.
This role will include planning activities, trips and days out with Joshua and his family, and providing the best care to ensure Joshua is safe, healthy and of course happy! You will assist with his personal care, medication, feeding, physiotherapy and keeping areas he uses clean and tidy. Joshua will need your assistance for all his activities, so you’ll need to be creative and patient. This role is a mixture of sole charge, 1:1 care and at times working alongside other family members.
The family can provide accommodation for a Snap candidate while working if required. Joshua has two weeks’ respite during the school holidays and one weekend a month, so no cover is required during these times. The family can be flexible regarding the weekend help, but not the school holidays when they depend of the PA / Carer to be able to get to work. The family may be able to consider this position on a job share basis.
To find out more about this wonderful opportunity to support Joshua and work alongside his lovely family who are well known to Snap, please speak with Sally and the team who have lots more information.
