Opticians Required in London

This is a permanent full-time position in an independent optometry practice established for seven years in a good suburban location. The practice has grown steadily by emphasising high standards of personal and clinical service, but is losing a staff member who we need to replace next month. There are four people working here at present, full-time.
The position includes reception work, detailed below, and work as an assistant to the Dispensing Optician involving many aspects of optical dispensing and sales. Informal training by experienced and qualified staff is given. And may lead to supported training as a State-Registered Dispensing Optician. Pay starts at around £9 per hour and is negotiable, increasing with training and experience. Hours are also negotiable, and part-time would be considered if at least 32 hours per week.
Reception work includes:
- greeting people as they arrive and dealing with the reason for their visit
- answering the phone
- opening the post and dealing with it
- booking appointments and maintaining the appointment diary
- the upkeep of patient and practice records
- completing NHS and internal forms
- taking and recording payments by the public
- maintaining stock levels of all non-optical supplies
- advising the public on services available in the practice
- helping people choose spectacle frames
- checking and storing deliveries of goods
- ordering optical items as directed by optically qualified personnel
- notifying patients and customers of the progress of their orders
- helping people choose spectacle frames
- completing minor repairs to spectacles
- identifying problems requiring ophthalmic attention and arranging it
- liaison with the opticians assisting patients and customers
- preparing and checking accounts of goods and services to and by the practice
- liaison with suppliers of goods and services to the practice
- typing practice correspondence
- assisting as necessary in all of the non-clinical work of the practice
- keyholding
- attending approved training courses
- arranging that the premises are clean, tidy, secure, and in good repair.

- have the equivalent of good GCSE passes in English, Maths and Science
