Office Handyperson Job in London

We are looking for a full time Office Handyperson to monitor and maintain the office with a focus on painting and decorating, simple plumbing and electrical remedial works as needed to keep our workspaces operational and presentable at all times
This role will ensure all works are carried out in accordance with agreed method statements, Health and Safety standards and applicable legislation. You will also make sure that all employees, clients and visitors are comfortable and fully supported in the office environment at Edelman.
Key Accountabilities
• Monitor Service Desk to identify tasks, assign them to yourself and to close them effectively with clear communication once the work is complete
• Attend to members of staff promptly when called upon
• Make yourself available at all times and respond promptly to emergencies that may arise from office equipment and appliances malfunctioning
• Ability to complete painting and decorating works to a high standard with adequate signage and clear-up after completion of the works
• To clear blockages, remove foreign matter from sinks, toilets, traps, pipework, drains, etc. And clean up spillages as required. Adjustment and re-washering of taps. Escalate to specialist contractors where necessary following consultation with head of department
• To clean light fittings and to monitor lighting systems weekly, replacing where necessary minor parts such as tubes, bulbs, fuse starters and diffusers, in accordance with safe working practices
• Comply with British Standard BS 7671 (Requirements for Electrical Installations. IET Wiring Regulations)
• Ensure all areas are kept tidy and represent the Edelman image at all times, upholding the clear desk policy and removing rubbish or unsightly clutter
• Ensure clear and safe walkways and fire escape routes at all times
• Provide first line maintenance of fixtures and fittings (for example tightening door handles), minor repairs and remedial action (for example glazing boarding as a temporary measure after breakage)
• To monitor stock levels of consumable items such as paint, Filler, bulbs/tubes and arrange to replenish supplies in accordance with current procedures
• To dispose of waste materials in a safe, hygienic manner ensuring that it is available for collection as required
• To undertake porterage tasks as required including setting up and clearing away furniture
• To maintain appropriate records including cleaner logbook, repair orders, stock checks etc.
• Move/relocate/allocate computer equipment and phones as required
• Liaise with contract cleaners on cleaning, Stains and other cleanliness issues
• Assist tradespeople with electrical, plumbing or HVAC repairs
• Identify and report the need for major repairs
• To report emergencies in the case of faults with electric and water supply to the head of department and the landlord's Building Manager, or where not immediately available regular contractors, and report minor faults on site to the head of department
• Be a qualified First Aider and Fire Marshal and take a supervisory role in evacuations
• Manage incoming and outgoing post if Office Manager is Unavailable
• The post holder will be expected to observe safe working practices in carrying out the required duties and ensure that instructions specified by technical consultants, contractors and manufacturers are adhered to
• Keep good records of expenses made on the repair and purchase of office equipment, and presenting them upon request by management
• To comply with the requirements of Edelman's Health and Safety policy, and other relevant legislation at all times
• To carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job

• A proven track record of office maintenance including the ability to administer simple plumbing, drain unblocking and light electrical works, painting and decorating to a high quality and manual handling

• experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment
• Understanding of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems


Desirable qualifications and experience
• Electrical Certification (17th edition)
• Health and Safety at work qualification
• Trade qualification preferred, usually City and Guilds or NVQ Level 3
• experience in carpentry is desirable but not essential.
