Mothers help / Care Assistant 27.5 hrs / week @ £12 / hour
Help wanted for a home with 3 lovely and lively children (15,13,9) of which 2 have muscular dystrophy. Youngest child is mostly ambulant and self caring. Middle child mostly non-ambulant. Help is needed to release Mum’s time from home chores to allow her to focus on the children, and also to directly support the children as necessary.
Mothers help role
General cleaning duties (cleaning/dusting/vacuuming/polishing/vacuuming/mopping, bathroom and kitchen cleaning).
Bed-making and fortnightly changing
Laundering/hand-washing/Ironing / putting clothes away.
Emptying rubbish / recycling
Loading / unloading dishwasher / cleaning kitchen surfaces
Providing lifts to children as required
Cooking/ food preparation
Babysitting / listening to reading /
Feeding / Walking dog (hypoallergenic Bichon Frise)
Care Assistant role
Getting in and out of bed.
Rising from sitting position to transfer
Assisting with moving around the house or out to school transport at front gate
Fetching / carrying items from around the house / from the floor
Preparation of drinks/ snacks.
Assist with packing of school bags / lifting them to an accessible height
Dressing and undressing / preparing the children for the day or following day.
Washing /bathing/showering.
Hair care.
Toileting and all aspects of personal hygiene.
Assisting with feeding as required.
Preparation of medication according to instructions
Dropping off / collecting from school / clubs and providing care support during activities if necessary
Charging electrical aids such as bath Riser, toilet Riser, supportive seating and wheelchairs
Massage of legs / back; putting on night splints or stretch splints (training to be provided)
Support using hoist and lifts (training to be provided)
NOTE:
Please note, the job description lists the likely and possible areas of responsibility. These may change as the children’s condition progresses and their needs change. Assistance with their personal care is likely to develop over time as trust is built.
Requirements
Essential
Good level of written and spoken English
Right to work in the UK
Full UK driving licence (disclosure of accidents / fines / points will be required)
Strong references
Desirable
Existing DBS (although this can be arranged)
experience supporting someone with physical disability
experience with children
Live locally
Cleaning experience (although note comment in “hours” below)
Location: Southborough, Surbiton
Hours: 27.5 hrs / week @ £12 / hour
Monday - Friday
07:00 – 09.00 ; 15:30 – 19:00
There may be some flexibility in these hours, particularly during school holidays but this can be discussed. There is also flexibility to exclude weekly house cleaning from the role and reduce the hours accordingly. There may also be opportunity for further hours in the evenings or at weekends by arrangement.
