Medical Secretary Job in London

Consultant Ophthalmologist is looking for PA/Medical Secretary/Practice Manager with private practice experience to join her practice.
You will work from your own premises, except two long afternoons when you will be at a Harley Street clinic (Wednesday and Friday afternoons).
This position would suit a person with excellent people skills, personal organisational ability, patience, and a commitment to grow the practice, someone who cares about and invests in patient and professional relationships.
An impeccable telephone and professional manner are essential. You need the ability to maintain calm in a busy clinic, and manage patient expectations, supporting the Consultant. Common sense and an ability to take the initiative when required are essential, and good communication and liaison with the Consultant are necessary.
Familiarity with an Electronic Practice Management software, and the ability to learn quickly on the job, are necessary. You need excellent typing and English grammar.
Your input to managing the Practice will be valued and appreciated. You will bring skills to the practice that complement what the Consultant brings, enabling both to focus on what each does best.
Good networking skills are required, and you will be communicating with referring practices (for example, General Practitioner , Optometry, Embassy), visiting them if required and building a Practice contact book.
Key responsibilities:

Responding to enquiries from patients in a kind and sensitive manner.
Dealing with incoming and outgoing mail (snail and electronic)
Arranging appointments and sending out appointment letters.
Liaising with Embassies, previous experience of this is desirable.
Typing letters and reports and ensuring Consultant is up to date with dictation.
Scanning and Filing records, including uploading to electronic patient record.
Ensuring test results are accessible and uploaded to electronic patient record.
Billing and invoicing; taking payments on the day for self-pay patients.
Paying in cheques
Keeping and organising records and receipts for accountancy requirements.
Light book keeping – reconciling payments with bank account.
Administrative assistance in clinic
Responsibility for booking theatre lists and anaesthetist and outpatient procedures.
Liaising with referring clinicians, optometrists and embassies.
Following up queries with courtesy letters.
Managing diary commitments between NHS and private professional roles, to include lecture commitments, conferences, meetings and other professional consulting roles.
Maintaining Consultant appraisal and CPD folder.
Booking travel and accommodation when required.
Keeping office space organised
Collecting and organising Consultant paperwork from all sources.

Qualifications
Essential

A minimum of A level or equivalent

Desirable

AMSPAR certificate in Medical Terminology.

experience
Essential

Private Medical Secretarial experience
experience of dealing with Private Healthcare Insurers.
experience of DGL Practice Manager or other Electronic Practice Management software.
Diary management skills
Very good organisational skills
An understanding of and commitment to patient confidentiality and data protection.
Fluent spoken and written English with a high standard of English grammar.
Use of Microsoft applications

This post would suit someone who wishes to work in a self-employed capacity, and there is flexibility in working hours, but clinics must be attended and calls and emails should be responded to in a timely manner; the practice uses a service to take calls when you are unable to answer them, with an email informing you of the query so that you can respond.
Leave to co-ordinate with consultant leave whenever possible.
Starting salary negotiable, from £28-30 000 pa.
