Maternity Cover Pharmacy Dispenser

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The dispenser will work under the direct supervision of the pharmacist and will carry out day-to-day activities connected with the preparation and supply of medicines.
Primary responsibilities
• To select, label and dispense correct items in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure safe supply of medicines to patients.
• To dispense controlled drugs in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure legal compliance
• To ensure at the point of sale, the safe and correct supply of dispensed items to patients.
• To create and update patient medication records in accordance standard operating procedures and data protection principles to ensure patient confidentiality.
• To assist with stock control to maximize availability and minimise waste.
• To ensure the safe and appropriate storage of medicines.
• To assist with the preparation of monitored dossette boxes.
• To maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of pharmacy issues for the purpose of continuing professional development.
• To work as part of a team and support pharmacy colleagues if needed.
Pharmacy Counter
• Deal with patients at the counter in a polite and efficient manner and in accordance with pharmacy standard operating procedures
• Assist customers in documenting prescription charge/exemptions and advise when medicines can be bought more cheaply over the counter
• Ensure customers correctly complete the reverse of the prescription
• Calculate and collect prescription charges, handle cash, cheques and cards
and operate the EPOS system
• Ensure appropriate handling and recording of payment received
• Ensure appropriate information is given to the customer
• Hand out repeat prescriptions on customer request ensuring thorough checks is made.
General administrative duties
• General housekeeping and expiry date checking
• To maintain cleanliness of shop floor and dispensary, including cleaning of floors and shelves to expected standards
• Safe disposal of returned medicines
• Check and put away daily orders
• Check and file invoices
• Awareness of health and safety of environment and reporting to appropriate
management any areas of concern
• Ensure a high standard of record keeping and involvement in data collection for audit purposes
• Awareness and adherence to Pharmacy Security Policies
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST
• An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
• Excellent communication skills
• Flexibility with regard to working hours
• Some basic IT skills
• The ability to read and carry out instructions
• The ability to pay attention to detail
• Willing to complete required course’s outside of working hours
HOURS
9am-6pm Monday-Friday, 9am-1pm Wednesday
WAGE
