Male Youth Worker
We are Urban Youth; a new start-up community youth project in Southwark that will be providing safe spaces, positive relationships and new experiences for young people aged 11 to 19 years old, who live or study in the borough or surrounding areas.
Urban Youth will provide unique and innovative youth work programs that are fresh, relevant, vibrant, fun, engaging and inspiring and available to all young people aged 11 to 19 years old across Southwark and the surrounding areas, empowering young people through activities, programs and events that; UNITE young people and communities for a more equal and tolerant society, EDUCATE young people in life and work skills, social issues and personal development, EMPOWER a generation of young people to become successful, confident, effective and responsible, and CHANGE the negative stereotypes society can have of young people by promoting the good that young people do.
We need a Male Youth Worker at Urban Youth to support our work during our set up phase as we engage with young people to gather their feedback, input and suggestions for our future projects. This includes facilitating sessions with young people and engaging them in a wide range of settings from schools, external youth clubs and in places young people hang out.
Duties:
• To plan and deliver sessions with young people during our set up phase, from youth sessions to consultations.
• To engage young people, especially young men to gather their input and give them a voice in our charity and what they want from Urban Youth.
• To support the work of the Founders in relation to work with young people.
• To carry out necessary health and safety checks, ensure safeguarding and other procedures are followed.
• Session monitoring and evaluating, including gathering outcomes and evidence of our work.
• To attend meetings and networking events to promote Urban Youth across Southwark, especially with young people.
• To build positive professional relationships and partnerships with schools and youth services.
• Other Youth Worker duties relevant to the role.
As Urban Youth will be working with vulnerable young people, it is necessary to carry out Disclosure and Barring Checks. (DBS/criminal records check) to an enhanced level.
