Male Buddy Support Worker in London

About The Role
Our Client is a 15 year old male with learning difficulties, who requires support in his own home and the local community. He is a very sociable and personable young man who enjoys the company of his family and his peers. He has a kind nature and enjoys outdoor activities, playing football as well as swimming, playing games on his Ipad, going to the cinema, shopping and exploring London. He has some impairment of his memory, thinking and problem solving skills, and requires support in order to continue to develop these skills. Whilst ambulant, he does have some mild difficulty with coordinating his movements, and he needs assistance with dressing as he struggles with buttons, zips, his school tie and shoe laces. He needs support to select appropriate clothes for the weather.
Our client has a divergent squint in both eyes and tends to bump into things / people and trips easily. He enjoys conversation, however lacks confidence at times when speaking, especially in unfamiliar settings. He needs a patient encouraging approach as he at times has some difficulties finding and verbalizing the words he wants to say, particularly when he feels anxious.
Overview:
The main focus of this role will involve supporting our client to participate in leisure activities such as swimming, football, going to the cinema and spending time with his peers. You will further support him in developing his independence in accessing the community with day to day activities such as shopping and using public transport. The work will be varied and will involve participating in a range of activities with the client both at home and out in the community. The support worker is expected to work cooperatively with the client’s family and the Case Manager to offer him the best opportunity to fulfill his potential.

Hours:
Bank hours available to cover Saturdays and afternoons according to the needs of the client.
Remuneration:
£12.00 to £12.50 per hour, on-going training and support provided, free DBS check.

experience of and qualifications in supporting young people with learning difficulties, this can include voluntary work or having a sibling with additional needs.
Responsible, positive attitude with a good sense of humour
Confident about and comfortable with working in client’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of our client and his family
Able to demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality and privacy
Willing to participate in a variety of sporting and outdoor activities
Ability to work under own initiative
Patient and tolerant
Reliable and trustworthy
Happy to learn new things e.g. Therapy programs, communication techniques etc. Training will be given
Able to work flexible hours and sometimes at short notice
Interviews to take place week commencing 25th of September.
Satisfactory references and proof of eligibility to work in the UK required.
This position requires a disclosure request from the DBS. A conviction will not necessarily prevent you from working with our client.
