This is a unique role and requires a professional, experienced and very versatile nanny/maternity nurse who is really interested in taking a role for the challenges that it throws up the rewards that will come with them.
The clients themselves are a very high profile family who have never had childcare before – not even a babysitter for an evening out. Their now 18 month old has been attachment parented and they are genuinely warm, welcoming, creative and exceptionally likeable, with a cheeky little toddler who loves nothing more than cuddles and her doting parents.
However with number 2 on the way and a high risk pregnancy they have come to realise that they need an additional pair of hands – someone sensitive enough to be able to slowly build a relationship with the family, allow them to still hands-on parent, but also allow them time to prepare for their next and have some time to themselves. Someone able to recognise that it is a big step to allow someone else into their very private lives, someone who also needs to allow them not to feel dictated to in their parenting methods, but who can also slowly build a bit more structure into their lives as they approach birth.
Likewise their toddler will need to also learn to trust and listen to another adult in their life and learn to accept that there will be competition for their attention.
They are a genuinely lovely family and really looking for someone who will become part of their unit – someone warm, caring, flexible and fun, who can become an additional pair of hands with their toddler, but also look after baby to allow mum to spend time with her, and equally someone who can step up when the dad is away with work.
Because they have not had childcare before we are looking for a nanny who can perhaps do fewer hours to start with – perhaps 3 or 4 hours a day, for up to 4 days a week, and build it up over the space of a few weeks rather than leaping straight into full time help. However as the pregnancy is high risk they may need those hours to escalate quickly and at short notice so they need someone who can be flexible. At the moment this role will be for a 6 month contract with the plan for it to go permanent once they are certain where they will then be based.
