Highgate Primary, a happy and successful school which serves a diverse community in North London, is looking to recruit enthusiastic and committed members of staff to join our kitchen.
Main duties and responsibilities
Cleaning

To ensure all crockery, utensils, pans and cutlery are cleaned thoroughly and stored safely in the correct areas of the kitchen.
To ensure all appliances are cleaned thoroughly maintaining high hygiene standards.
To monitor the flooring and surfaces, cleaning up any excess spillages and debris to help avoid any accidents.
To clean and mop floors, walls, surfaces and equipment using designated cleaning chemicals and ensuring all safety signage is evident to the staff and public at all times.
Make sure that machines and equipment are kept clean and that all cleaning schedules are followed, advise the Executive Chef of any faults and chemical requisitions required.
To monitor and empty refuse/recycling bins once full, throughout the shift.
To ensure all back of house kitchen areas are clean tidy and mopped.
To ensure staff toilet is clean, tidy and mopped.
To ensure the cleanliness and organisation of the storerooms, kitchen and dining centre.
To take responsibility for arranging the maintenance of emergency equipment (e.g. Fire extinguishers) and the proper storage and use of any harmful machinery or toxic materials.
To undertake minor repairs and redecoration as required, in accordance with agreed guidelines, using appropriate tools and equipment.

Food Preparation

To ensure appropriate and sufficient preparation of food when required by Executive Chef for the delivery of each day’s service.
To assist in serving during busy times as directed by the Executive Chef.
Health and Safety

To observe all legislative requirements including those concerning food hygiene, and health and safety at work.
To eliminate hazards to safety and to health, and where this cannot be done the hazards should be reported to the Executive Chef.
To be aware of and comply with COSHH regulations as instructed.
To be fully conversant with the school’s fire procedures at all times.
To be correctly dressed in the uniform provided.
Uniform to be kept in good repair and clean.
Hair to be short, or tied back, clean and smart.
Shoes must have rubber Soles with a closed in toe.
No jewellery to be worn
Other

To receive, check and sort deliveries.
To report any items running low to Executive Chef.
To be a pro-active member of a Catering Team.
To be able to work calmly when under pressure.
Work flexibly within the framework of duties and responsibilities specified above. This means that the post holder may be expected to carry out work that is not specified in the job profile but which is within the remit of the duties and responsibilities.
