Intern, The Pharmacist and Management in Practice Are you an ambitious individual with an interest in health journalism? Do you have the potential to deliver exclusives and investigations that set the national agenda? Do you want to join one of the best news teams in the business?The primary care desk is looking for a news-hungry intern to work across The Pharmacist, the magazine for independent community pharmacists, and Management in Practice, the market-leading title for general practice managers, initially on a six-month contract. This role will involve reporting on the latest NHS policy news, breaking exclusives and working on deep-dive investigations that are relevant to pharmacists, general practice and the wider health service.The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training in reporting, digital journalism ad features writing. The role will offer the successful candidate to learn from an experienced and tenacious news team on two swiftly evolving brands.A background in journalism is preferred, but any candidate must show basic reporting skills and the drive to find stories. You must be an analytical thinker, with a strong news sense and an ability to interpret what is often very complex information in a short space of time.Our reporters are known for their tenacity and news-finding skills and this role is a rare opportunity to work alongside some of the best in the business. We will provide on-the-job training in investigative journalism skills so that the successful candidate can become one of the best in their field. Requirements of the position* A degree, or equivalent* Preferably has demonstrable experience of news reporting* Tenacity, hunger for getting exclusives and a strong news sense* The ability to interpret very complex information and write strong, engaging news stories about it* Numeracy and an understanding of how to use data to get stories* An excellent writing style, both being able to turn around stories within minutes and write longer news analysis pieces* Social media savvy* Confidence building contacts among senior and knowledgeable people in prominent positions Duties* Sourcing and writing daily news stories across both titles* Breaking exclusive news that sets the national agenda* Carrying out deep-dive investigations on topics such as medicines shortages* Building a wide array of contacts across the health service and academia, as well as relevant political figures* Being comfortable using data and interpreting policy documents or clinical papers* A genuine interest in the health service Employer description"We sit at the heart of a community of 220,000 health professionals, with respected and award-wining media brands such as Pulse, Nursing in Practice and The Pharmacist.
