Housekeeping Assistant is required to work an average of 22 hours a week on a shift Rota basis, including some weekends and Bank Holidays.

Job Description
1. General
Kingsdale Group Limited is responsible for the management of private retirement developments. It acts as agent for the Owners Company (in which all owners have a share) or management company and is accountable to the directors.
Although employed by Sample Development (if applicable), personnel management has been delegated to Kingsdale and are accountable to the Manager for day to day operations.
2. ‘Very Sheltered’ Retirement Living
The concept of very sheltered retirement living aims to promote a lifestyle that is as independent and fulfilling as possible. All members of staff have a responsibility for developing a good community spirit throughout the development.
3. Personal Needs of Owners
Housekeeping Assistants are responsible for providing a minimum 1.5 hours per week of domestic assistance to each owner.
The nature of the assistance to be provided will vary depending on the requirements of the individual but typically will cover such tasks as:-
• domestic cleaning
a) Cleaning duties as required by owners during Service Clean in owners’ apartments or during additional housekeeping hours
b) Cleaning duties in internal and, if required, external communal areas
• shopping
a) Carrying out shopping duties locally for owners during the Service Clean or during additional housekeeping hours and for the development, as required by the Manager.
• laundry and ironing
a) Laundry duties using the development washing and drying machines, or in owners apartments, if requested, during the Service Clean or additional housekeeping hours
b) Ironing of laundered items in the communal laundry or in owners’ apartments, if requested, during the service clean or during additional housekeeping hours
Individual needs will be assessed by the Duty Manager. The Housekeeping Assistant should:-
i) ensure that all duties are carried out diligently and to the required standard
ii) be aware of changing needs of owners, particularly as a result of illness or increasing frailty, and when identified bring this to the immediate attention of the Duty Manager.
4. Communal Areas
Many owners will spend most of their time within the development. It is therefore essential that all communal areas, both internal and external such as lounges, dining areas and gardens etc are kept clean, tidy and free from litter.
Specific tasks to be carried out with by Housekeeping Assistants will be determined by the Manager and will include:
a) Cleaning duties in internal and, if required, external communal areas
b) Litter picking duties around the development
5. Catering
The dining room and catering function should be developed and promoted, and forms a focal point for social meetings between owners.
Housekeeping Assistants are responsible for:-
i) assisting the Cook, as required, preparing vegetables and in the preparation of meals and light refreshments
ii) strictly adhering to all safety and hygiene requirements
iii) promoting dining as a social activity by ensuring that meals and refreshments are presented and served to professional standards
iv) providing a waiting-on service – serving owners and guests in the Dining Room and other areas if requested
v) carrying out cleaning duties in and around the kitchen, including walls and floors and kitchen equipment
vi) cleaning of all dining room and kitchen cutlery, crockery and utensils
6. Cleaning
i) Housekeeping Assistants are required to only use cleaning products provided by the Manager or the Kingsdale Group through preferred suppliers and contractors.
ii) All products used to be done so in line with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) guidelines as required by Health and Safety regulations
7. Training
Housekeeping Assistants are required to attend training courses as required by management.
Completion of the Basic Food Hygiene Course is a mandatory requirement of the job.
8. Clothing
Housekeeping Assistants are required to wear the uniforms supplied by the development.
9. Health and Safety
Housekeeping Assistants must abide by all the relevant Health and Safety Rules and Regulations relating to the role, including wearing personal protective clothing and equipment as required by certain duties and tasks.
