Home Care for my old Mother With Early Dementia

Posted: Today
Place: Lambeth, London

My mother Jackie, a retired teacher, is 89 and has early stage dementia.
She lives on the ground floor of our house in a self-contained flat. We are very close to Stockwell Tube station.
She has needed increasing care over the last few years and currently has help in the mornings and evenings.
She needs assistance getting up in the mornings, when she is most confused, help with washing and incontinence pads. Preparing her breakfast.
The post includes cleaning her flat, doing her shopping and laundry etc. Lunch needs to be provided and then she is content on her own in the afternoons. We feed her when we can but five evenings per week a return visit to give her supper and make sure she is ready for bed is required.
We are offering a full time post working five mornings from 10am to 2pm and five evenings from 7pm to 9pm and Jackie would prefer a woman. Working days would probably be Tuesday to Saturday but this can be varied by arrangement but will include one weekend day. This total of 30 hours per week reflects the weekend working and the fact that there is a gap during the day. However, from time to time, by arrangement, we may request an extra morning or evening. The successful candidate would, by arrangement, be welcome to remain in the house to relax or study between the morning and evening shifts if they so wished.
Jackie smokes and has a cat of which she is inordinately fond. A tolerance of these two aspects would be essential for this post.
We are offering a salary of £25,000 per annum with four weeks paid holiday per annum. The salary would be paid monthly by a payroll company net of Paye. There are no other benefits (pension, private healthcare). The post is as permanent as a client of 89 years can be.
A recent CRB check and some relevant NVQ and or experience with working with elderly people with dementia would be an advantage.
Please reply with a CV and covering letter.
Many thanks,
Marc.
