The Karten Centre in Golders Green is seeking Digital Inclusion Volunteers to support a new and exciting programme.
The programme will introduce older people and disabled adults who don't have digital skills to use digital technology, in order to increase their confidence in using it and then ensure that their use of technology is both meaningful and purposeful.
The role of the Digital Inclusion Volunteer
iPads, Facebook, Going Online, Email. Are computers, tablets or smartphones part of your everyday life?
If the answer is yes, our community has older people, aged 65 +, and people aged 18 + with a range of disabilities, who would benefit from your support. By sharing your experience and knowledge, you can help them feel confident, gain digital skills and be part of the digital age.
You don't need to be a geek, boffin or computer expert, as we will provide training. You just need to be a user of technology with a desire to help others learn.
Duties of the Digital Inclusion Volunteer
As one of our Digital Inclusion Volunteers, you will work with older people and disabled adults, in order to ensure that they acquire the digital skills they need for everyday life in the digital age.
You will provide support, either one-to-one or in small groups.
You will be working with a range of devices, including desk up PCs, laptops, iPads, smartphones and Android tablets.
You will be supporting customers to improve their basic digital skills, from using email and the internet to communicating with friends and family using social media.
Requirements of the Digital Inclusion Volunteer
We are looking for enthusiastic, empathic, confident and IT literate individuals to help our customers make the most of their digital experiences.
We will, of course, provide training and support for all volunteers, whether this be around working with older and disabled people or to brush up any of your digital skills.
Benefits:
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and make a real contribution to the local community.
If you enjoy working with people of all ages, have a sensitive, patient, warm and friendly personality, are using digital technology in your daily life, then please send us a short cover letter and a CV.
This Volunteer IT Facilitator role is a voluntary position!
