HEALTHY MALE VOLUNTEERS AGED 25-45 NEEDED FOR STUDY ON DEPRESSION
From body to mind study
We are interested in understanding how the “immune system”, that is, the system dedicated to fight infections in our body may be involved in developing depression. To do this we would like to understand if when we have inflammation in the body, we have also inflammation in the brain.
We are looking for healthy volunteers to be able to come to see us either at the Institute of Psychiatry in King’s College London (Denmark Hill) and at Hammersmith Hospital on a total of 4 occasions.
After having checked your health status on the first visit, we will inject a substance that has been safely used for many years in research studies to study inflammation in people. This will cause a temporary inflammation in your body which will last only few hours. We will take some pictures of your brain before and after this injection and take small samples of blood to understand if inflammation in your body is associated with inflammation in your brain. You will also be asked a few questions regarding your well-being, mood, and your quality of life. This will involve an interview with a psychology/psychiatry trained researcher, filling in a few simple questionnaires.
To be eligible for participation in this study: you should be a man 25-45 years old, with no current major physical or psychiatric illness, or taking any regular medication.
Participation is voluntary, and you are free to withdraw at any time without giving a reason. You will be compensated for your time, and travel expenses will also be reimbursed on provision of a valid receipt.
