Head of BuyingWe are currently recruiting for a Head of Buying - a strategic manager to lead the SSP UK and Ireland buying team in the development and implementation of buying strategies. The team aim to meet and exceed SSP UK strategic objectives in reducing the cost of goods purchased across SSP UK brands and franchised brands. This includes working closely and integrated with the Supply Chain team to assist in the management of logistics, shelf life, storage and minimum production runs to ensure product is sourced at best cost, but doesn't reduce quality, extend lead times and ensures SSP select the right suppliers to work with to support the needs of the business.The Head of Buying will work cross functionally with Brand teams, New Product Development, Marketing, Operations, Finance, Project/Concept team and SSP Group Commercial team to ensure effective implementation and communication of activities and seamless transition of any new activities.The role covers all sectors of buying, such as food and beverages, non-foods and FM servicesSSP is a world-wide retail catering company with operations in 32 countries and employing over 30,000 people. We operate well known branded restaurants, pubs, bars, cafés, food courts and convenience stores in airports, train stations, motorway service stations, retail parks and other leisure locations across the globe.The Role The Head of Buying will lead a team of Buyers, Assistants and Analyst to ensure that the Procurement Team are meeting their strategic goals. The role will include: * Manage the internal buying function to negotiate new and improved terms with suppliers * Line manage the Buyers to achieve the best possible commercial terms * Documenting and detailing all terms (from net cost to invoice cost) * Ownership across the business of inflation management * Improving supplier investment / returns (central income) * Seamless transition of any new or improved agreements * Identifying new commercial opportunities * Building, developing and implementing the purchasing strategy * Rationalisation and consolidation of terms / suppliers / products * Utilising market / commodity intelligence to deliver improved terms * Up to date Supplier contract management database * Influencing cross functional support and implementation The DetailsWe're looking for a candidate with a minimum of 5 years experience in Food and Beverage buying experience with a national caterer or wholesaler * experience of leading and managing a team of buyers and analysts * Strong analytical skills including cost / benefit analysis and use of Excel / Systems * Ability to communicate effectively at all levels including senior management * Ability to present to senior management * Ability to work under pressure and deliver to specific deadlines * Excellent Negotiating and Influencing skills with demonstrable results * Tender management experience * Project management experience * Tenacious and enthusiastic * Excellent oral and written skills Desirable: * Strong networking skills * Contract management experience * Knowledge of and importance of Contingency programs * Category Management * Supplier Quality Assurance including food safety, due diligence, accreditation etc * Knowledge of working capital and impact * CSR and Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) * Masters degree and professional accreditation The BenefitsIn return for your skills and experience, we offer competitive salary of up to £75,000 + bonus + a great benefits package.
