Simon is 4 and attends an independent school in Hammersmith West London. Snap are working with the school to find an intelligent, supportive and confident Learning Support Assistant to support Simon through his school day and to access his curriculum. Simon has Prader Willi Syndrome, this is a rare genetic condition which means Simon has a constant desire to eat food which can lead to dangerous weight gain, restricted growth, poor thermoregulation, reduced muscle tone, learning difficulties and behavioural problems.
Simon attends school within a mainstream setting, and requires a committed, intelligent and understanding LSA to support him to access his curriculum, interact with his peers and to adhere to his strict diet. It is vital that Simon keeps to his diet and part of this role is being vigilant to Simon’s surroundings, the actions of his peers and his own behaviour to ensure that he doesn’t have access to any foods which are not on his prescribed diet.
You will work 1:1 with Simon throughout the day, supporting him during lunch time and break times and ensuring he is appropriately dressed for outdoor activities. Simon requires support during group activities and it is important that he is encouraged to develop his social skills and interact with his peers. Simon has regular input from physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists and his LSA is responsible for making sure Simon’s education is in line with therapeutic input. We are looking for an LSA who understands Simon’s needs, and can make necessary use of a multi-sensory environment and approach to learning to reflect Simon’s learning style.
Simon’s family would like someone to start before the summer break, shadowing existing staff and getting to know Simon. Whilst this is a term time only position, the family will be able to offer some additional hours during the summer in the family home. Please forward all applications to Rachael who is working with lovely Simon, his family and his school.
