Sami is a gregarious and fun little chap with a quick smile and a real glint in his eye. Sami is 5 and sustained a brain injury when he was small. He requires support throughout the day.
In this role you will support Sami before and after school, assisting him with personal care and at meal times and you will encourage and develop his independence and his functional skills. While Sami is at school; you will have light domestic duties and errands to run for the family. You will need to be flexible and adaptable and ready to assist the family as they require.
This job will suit a creative, fun and dynamic support worker who can incorporate arts and crafts and games, music and songs into their work with young people. Sami struggles to maintain his concentration and games, Toys and songs can be an excellent way to get him back on track. Sami has very little safety awareness and his new support worker and his new support worker will be confident when accompanying a young person out in the community. Sami is nonverbal and you will be skilled and creative when communicating with him and assisting him to develop his communication. Sami has lots of therapy at school, you will be experienced and confident supporting Sami to encourage his therapeutic progression while at home.
In this role you have the opportunity to forge a long-lasting and supportive relationship with a charming and joyful young man. There is great scope for learning here as well as broadening your experience in supporting those with brain injuries.
