Love … selling artisan food? Working outdoors? Borough Market? Cake, cake and more cake! We’re looking for a super sales person to work at our specialist cake stall at Borough. We’re an award-winning specialist baked goods business, committed to making the best “free from” (gluten/wheat/dairy/sugar free and vegan) products for our customers. We love being at Borough Market and now have an opening for a mature-thinking, responsible, hard-working and friendly sales person to be an integral part of the team there.
You work approximately 30 hours across 4 days (Weds to Saturday ) and as December is busier, you will be required to do extra shifts (Tues or Sun) in December and (important) be committed to work up to and including 23rd December. We close for Xmas (paid hols) and re-open in early Jan.

Key daily responsibilities:
* Sole responsibility for setting up and closing down the stall on Weds in the format and timescale required by the business.
* Supporting another team member on Thursday, Fri and Saturday from 11am/12 noon to close.
* Selling with a smile! Recommending products to customers. Upselling and cross-selling
* Ensuring all products for sale are entered onto Epos system. In addition, handling cash and being able to count accurately and quickly without a calculator. Taking card payments.
* Doing a stock count twice daily and communicating with production kitchen and management
* Ensuring the products are displayed according to company standards and the stall is visually appealing and kept clean
* Being aware many customers are unable to consume certain ingredients and briefing them on the correct products for their safe enjoyment (training given).
We require candidates to demonstrate the following:
• It is a busy stall and the ideal person would have a minimum of 1 years (recent) food retail sales experience (preferably in a café/deli/food hall or food market)
• Physically able to carry, lift or move mobile fridge, trolley, tables and crates of cakes
• Numerate – be able to count accurately without a calculator
• Stamina to stand all day – outdoors -in all Weathers!
*Be reliable and available to work every week Weds to Saturday (approximately 30 hours over these 4 days)
• Be punctual each day
• Super organised, calm with attention to detail, methodical and a multi-Tasker
• An outgoing, confident and happy personality – no flappers
• Look groomed and presentable
• Preferably have a basic food hygiene certificate (or be prepared to get one)
• A non-smoker
• Important to engage, listen and interact with customers whilst being sales focused in a natural manner. Many have severe intolerances/allergies and an understanding and empathy is imperative. Being patient and helping them to choose.
• Have an interest in ‘free from food’ and be prepared to learn about the varied products and this growing sector
• Must speak and write fluent English
After 2 successful trial shifts, the starting rate is £9 per hour which will increase (to £9.75) after a successful probation period.
The vacancy is open immediately.
You must be able to work legally in the UK as you will be registered to pay Tax and NI through the company.
Pay is on a monthly basis.
You will be given an employment contract with paid holidays and a pension. And you can have cake every day :-)
