Gardener / Allotment Manager
Up to 5 days per week - Subject to negotiation at interview (36 hours)
52 weeks a year
Salary range LBR4 (18-21) £19,917 - £21,984 pa
An exciting and in some ways unique opportunity is available for a passionate gardener to join our 'Outstanding' (Ofsted 16) special school for children experiencing social, emotional, behavioural and/or mental health difficulties.
We have a working allotment and wildlife garden, developed during the last 10 years. Over the last 18 months the existing post holder has worked extensively to improve the capacity of the allotment, turning it into a fantastic outdoor learning environment for our children.
Children working in the allotment are an essential part of the complementary education experience we offer at the school. Due to the existing post holder moving on, we are looking for someone who can build on the existing good practice, maintaining and developing the allotment and wildlife garden and working small groups of children, typically 4-5, also supported by fully trained staff.
It is hoped that the successful candidate will be prepared to offer work experience placements to older children on a one to one basis.
We are seeking a skilled gardener who has the ability to maintain and where necessary develop the allotment. The successful applicant will be self-motivated, adaptable, a good team player and also willing to work on their own some of the time. A relevant qualification in horticulture tasks is desirable. New Rush Hall School is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
It is expected that annual leave will be taken during school holidays. Prospective candidates are strongly advised to visit the school to see the allotment and wildlife garden.
Further details can be downloaded from our website - click the apply button to be taken there.
Please return your completed application form and covering statement by midday of the 6th September.
Interviews will be held on the 14th September at the school.
