Full Time Assistant Charity Shop Manager

JOB PURPOSE
To work alongside the existing manager to ensure the smooth and profitable running of our busy and popular shop. To share the responsibility for all aspects of the charity shop including staff, volunteers, customer service, stock management, financial records, gift aid, administration, compliance with current legislation and Branch and Society policy, promoting the work of the RSPCA. The Managers will work to budgeted sales targets and will be expected to control the shop expenditure. They will be responsible for a team of volunteers including recruitment, training and retention.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• To ensure that stock density, procurement, rotation and space allocation policies and procedures are strictly adhered to in order to maximize sales potential.
• To develop and team of competent volunteers by selective recruitment and training in the following areas;
a) stock processing including sorting, ticketing, pricing, cubing, steaming, stock rotation and culling
b) customer service including serving and assisting customers courteously
c) administration including till operating, cash handling, banking
d) housekeeping
e) merchandising, presentation and window display
• To ensure a high standard of merchandising, presentation and display within the shop
• To be responsible for the security of the premises, stock and money on site
• To promote and apply the RSPCA Health and Safety Policy
• To ensure that all administration and accounting duties are completed accurately, i.e. Daily banking and recording of income and expenditure
• To promote the presence of the shop within the local community through in-shop activities and events in order to encourage good public relations
• To achieve and maintain high standards of housekeeping, organization and cleanliness through the shop premises
• To attend as requested, Trustee meeting and development training courses and to undertake other duties which may arise and fall logically within the remit of the shop manager
Additional Duties
• The postholder is expected to assign work for themselves and volunteers on a daily basis
• All employee practices are contained in the Personnel, policies and procedures manual, and the Health and Safety Manual, available on request
• All working practices are detailed in the Branch Shop Manual, provided upon recruitment.
• The post holder is expected to update and consult with their Line Manager on a regular basis, with sales information and any other issues that may arise.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
• Live locally to the Branch area
• Proven track records of working to and exceeding sales targets
• Able to prioritise workload, to work on their own initiative, cope under pressure and find solutions to problems
• Computer literate, good verbal, written and numerical skills
• Passionate about animal welfare and the RSPCA's charity ethics
• Energetic and physically fit (some heavy lifting is involved)
• Effective communicator, approachable and flexible attitude
• Excellent customer service skills, professional and confident with dealing with members of the public
• Able to manage budget and reconcile daily/monthly returns
• Able to successfully merchandise a wide range of goods
• Able to complete weekly rosters to ensure adequate staff/volunteer coverage
• experience of recruiting, managing and training volunteers
• Able to initiate ideas / solutions to encourage more sales and generate more stock, ability to "think outside the box"
• Able to work on weekends / bank holidays when required
• Trustworthy, patient and a good relationship builder. Must enjoy working as part of a team
Desirable
• Hold a full valid UK driving licence
• Demonstrable knowledge of fashion trends
• Interest in collectables and vintage items
• Basic knowledge of Health and Safety and Fire regulations with the ability to identify potential risks
• Knowledge of gift aid

Occasionally you may be required to work at our second shop at 161 Wandsworth High Street, London, SW18 4JB and you may be asked if you would like to help at our fundraising events throughout the year.
