Job Title: FEAST! Volunteer Co-coordinator (VC)
Responsible to: Hannah Style, FEAST! Founder and Chair
Hours: 12 hours per week, 5 hr at Conway House FEAST! (4pm-9pm), 7 hr flexi time.
Salary: £11 per hour
The post is initially for one year, to be renewed subject to funding availability
Location: Various
This role requires work to be carried out at different sites including Conway House (18-22 Quex Road, London, NW2) to support FEAST! sessions, and at suitable public locations when meeting with volunteers, trustees, Conway House staff or supermarkets. Work may also be performed from home.
Job Summary
Working closely with the volunteers and dedicated staff at Conway House, the postholder will supervise weekly FEAST! cook-and-dine sessions at this site, and ensure the service is provided in a sustainable, friendly and safe manner. The postholder may be asked to facilitate other FEAST! activities to support the ongoing running of FEAST! as a charity.
FEAST! Aims
FEAST! runs weekly community meals at shelters for adults at risk, using surplus food that would otherwise be thrown away. The meal is a collaboration whereby volunteers and adults at risk cook and dine together, as equals. FEAST! has recently become a charity and is looking to expand by offering other projects such as jam-making and cooking lessons for adults at risk. The charity aims to:
• ameliorate malnutrition in adults at risk by enhancing access to nutrition
• promote sustainable eating habits, and prevent food waste
• enable community cohesion and togetherness
FEAST! Structure
Volunteers: help at FEAST! cook-and-dine sessions.
Facilitators: run FEAST! cook-and-dine sessions and support volunteers.
VC: trains facilitators and volunteers, and supervises FEAST! sessions.
Trustees: legally accountable for FEAST! activities, outreach, vision, and line manage VC
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise weekly FEAST! cook-and-dine sessions at Conway House.
• Maintain volunteer and facilitator recruitment and retention for FEAST!
• Provide appropriate training for volunteers and facilitators at Conway House
• Manage FEAST! social media, volunteering email account, and phone.
• Act as FEAST! ambassador, and proactively seek opportunities to promote FEAST!
• Liaise with and report back to the FEAST! trustees, staff at Conway House, volunteer partners and supermarkets local to Conway House.
• Support monitoring and evaluation processes for FEAST!
Duties and responsibilities described below are not exhaustive. This job description may change as identified by the employee and trustees as the role develops.
Supervising weekly FEAST! cook-and-dine sessions
To respond promptly to any email, phone or social media correspondence sent by a current or prospective volunteer regarding input at a weekly FEAST! cook-and-dine session, and liaise with the dedicated weekly facilitator.
To maintain and update the FEAST! cook-and-dine facilitator Rota, and aim to ensure 2 facilitators are co-running sessions where one brings more head-chef experience.
Alongside the weekly facilitator for a cook-and-dine session, to provide weekly notifications on social media, and via email/text, to remind and invite volunteers to attend.
To ensure that safeguarding and health and safety processes are followed during the running of a cook-and-dine session, and that records of volunteers’ agreement to these are safely filed.
Together with the dedicated weekly facilitator, to provide a personal thank you to volunteers who were present that week.
To record any feedback from Conway House staff and the dedicated weekly facilitator/s and report back to the FEAST! trustees.
To ensure that all receipts and expenses are recorded for the running of weekly sessions.
To triage any email, phone or social media correspondence regarding fundraising, donations, hosting or partnering to dedicated FEAST! trustees.
Alongside the weekly facilitator for a cook-and-dine session, to collect and record specified data from partners, hosts and volunteers to support ongoing monitoring and evaluation processes.
To maintain the cleanliness / tidiness of the Conway House kitchen and dining room, to upkeep recycling and composting practices, and to manage donations of kitchen equipment.
Volunteer Recruitment and Retention
To support the expansion of the FEAST! through proactively reaching out to individual volunteers and volunteer networks.
To explain the different ways in which interested parties are able to engage with FEAST!
To organise social events for the FEAST! facilitators and volunteers, and support retention of current facilitators and volunteers.
To support with the training of new facilitators and new volunteers for weekly cook-and-dine FEAST! sessions at Conway House, including FEAST! ethos, professional boundaries, and food hygiene and safety certification.
To listen to any feedback/ideas from volunteers and to report back to the FEAST! trustees.
To create a bank of FEAST! volunteers and their contact details.
